Re: Help! wiring radiator, fan, and termostatic switch

I have a 1990 906. There are two pink heavy gauge wires (bullet connectors) from switch 5 (the radiator fan temp switch), and one light gauge Brown/Black wire (spade connector) from switch 3 (the water temp sensor). The body of switch 3 goes to earth via the engine. There are no other switches direc...

Re: Another question about clocks!

Hi Kirk My clock is on the bench but I have the same burned out resistor as you. Don't know what the original value is. Looking at the circuit board layout it appears to be a current limiting resistor from the 12V feed after a polarity protection diode. Should have been no more than 100-200 ohms giv...

Re: Stand Assembely...Does this look right?

Hi Kirk Yes the power supply mod on this site means that the coils get a more direct supply from the battery, but also that they are not hanging off about 200m of wiring in the loom suffering excessive voltage drop from the current draw due to other loads and dodgy connections thru the ignition swit...

Re: Steering Stem Bearings

The trickiest bit of changing the steering head bearings I have found to be removing the lower inner race, which is an interference fit on the bottom of the steering stem. This was on a 906 but bearing assembly and part number is the same as 750. I never found a bearing puller to remove it in one pi...

Re: Stand Assembely...Does this look right?

the ballast resistors used in some cars (integrated with the coil or external) are there because the ignition system is designed to work satisfactorily when there is less than 12 volts available to it. This happens when the car is being started and the high current draw from the starter motor reduce...

Have a look at this url for info on building your own injection system http://www.bgsoflex.com/megasquirt.html Lots of things you can do, but also a lot of work especially if you are not into electronics. Also designed with primarily symmetric cylinder timing I think, so you might have to get into a...

I got used to the auto retract 'feature' and quite like it, but I recognise many people's alternative view that it is a bit risky and if some friendly passer by nudges it towards vertical it will fall back all the way to the ground. There is a link to a plan for a modified version of the pivot plate...

No I don't believe so Gert. The second ridge is as close to the TDC ridge as it can reasonably be within the geometry of the flywheel and pickup. I believe the ignition uses this double pulse as a reference for TDC-H, from where it can compute the rpm, advance and TDC-V updating each rev. I have loo...

Fester The Digiplex setup on my '90 906 Paso has a single reluctor pickup. There are four points on the flywheel where the pickup generates a pulse for the ignition box. Starting at TDC for the horizontal cylinder there are actually two ridges on the flywheel (so a double pulse is generated), the fi...

Hi Gerhard Yes, I've been through the wiring and corrected a number of areas. At one stage in previous years, I even discovered the wiring in the kill/run switch just barely making contact with a single strand of the original wire. Those areas are sorted now. Voltage levels are good with engine off ...

Digiplex Ignition circuit board resolder

Having some intermittent ignition problems with the Marelli Digiplex when it heats up after a few miles on the road. Having done the relay rewiring mods without completely solving the problem, I am planning on cracking open the Digiplex and resoldering the circuit board next to see if this corrects ...

I scanned in the original of the 906 factory manual and sent it on to Wazza, Gerhard and a few others after not having much luck getting it on to the web site downloads section thru the moderators. I have another scan I'm trying to get done of a book on the Weber DCNF carbie. If I get this done, can...

Alex I don't have a parts manual as such, but I have scanned in the 906 workshop manual. I have uploaded it to the Webmaster to link into the downloads area of the site, so should be available soon. If you need it in a hurry I can email to you, but it is quite big; nearly 12MB in 3 parts, so it depe...
