Re: Restauration Paso, state and cost evaluation

I bought two paso non-runners in the past (750 and 907) as well as several other bikes. Made them all run with a lot of effort and very little expense (compared to buying a an equivalent bike already running). My process is as follows. Stage 1 - The engine. The secret is not to wreck it by trying to...

Re: How Fix Crack in the Engine block

Some alloys are porous and take up oil over time. These cant be welded successfully. Found this out when I went to have a crankcase on my motocrosser welded. Metal stitching is the best type of repair for this situation as it is done cold and so there is no shrinkage or contamination issues, but it ...

Re: Steering head bearings

I normally cut an x pattern with a small angle grinder (a partly worn blade makes it easier as the diameter is smaller, but still be careful) and then knock out the triangular shaped bit with a cold chisel. To get the lower bearing cup out of the headstock, I normally run a bead of weld around the c...

Re: 907IE Radiator Hoses

Been of line for a while and missed this. Can you put me down for a set please (or 2 depending on price) Given that the thermostat is unobtainable can we make a small mod to accomodate the Aprillia 1000 thermostat (or equivalent) which is straight out the top rather than 90 degrees. Are these not th...

Re: Normal temp various speeds?

Modern thermostats open around 88 centigrade and close about 84. Most things now days run at about 90 normally. The paso was one of the first water cooled bikes for Ducati and was based on an aircooled design. Therefore it is likely not to work so good as a modern bike and be less stable. When my th...

Re: Timing belt replacement

Belts may have a shelf life of 8 years, but a service life of 3 on the bike, and less if left sitting for long periods.

Time to change your belts

Re: Normal temp various speeds?

If your thermostat is working, then all three hoses should be at the same temperature when you touch them when the engine is hot, and so should the rad be equally hot throughout. The fan should be cutting in and out. On my bike, when the temp gauge shows excessive heat, the cure is to short two of t...

Re: Paso 750 missing

Paso resides in another country so dont get to ride it as often as I would like. Got to have a good look over the weekend though. Problem turns out to be rust in the fuel tank blocking the inline filter.

Paso 750 missing

After driving the paso for about 30 km it starts backfiring and cutting out.

Shoulkd I start with electrics (coils breaking down?) or fuel (vapourisation, pump failure, dirt in carb)?

Anyone experience similar previously?

Why ask?

Just fit whatever tyres you want and drive.

See you tomorrow Keith, probably around midday.

Unless the weather is foul! I'm a wimp and no longer ride when the weather is bad.
