Re: On the road again!

Hey Nige, many thanks! I have not done it yet, but reading the cigarette butt posts I found better descriptions of what my bike is doing than I gave. I am sure that will be the cure. I will bet the problem will be fixed with the cigarette butt. Now I have to go to town and search out butts. Not sure...

Re: On the road again!

The short ride to Squamish (about 100 kms round trip) made me really like this bike. Stopped at a NAPA auto parts dealer and obtained a new oil pressure sender switch as the old one was leaking. Cost was $12. I didn't tell them it was for a Ducati until after I paid for it. That was Sunday. On Frida...

On the road again!

I appologize in advance for the long post. Just thought I would share a bit of my first 6 months of Ducati ownership. As I indicated in a previous post, I bought my 1992 red 907ie in January as a non-runner but potentially fixable or at least something I could get my money back from parting out. The...

Fuel line connections

Today's issue: I failed to properly mark the fuel line connections coming out of the bottom of the tank. There are four spiggots. From the front to the rear, the first is the out line, the second the return line. One of the two rear spiggots is for the overflow...but the other? Vent perhaps. Of thes...

Re: Need help re: head locating dowel

Received the dowels today and put most of the bike back together. As I thought, the locating dowels have much less to do with locating and much more to do with metering the oil flow to the head. Best not to try to go without them. This may be old hat to those that have changed their belts, but for o...

Re: Need help re: head locating dowel

Okay...Mc tool is right. :phone: Called the shop this morning and my dowels were in the ST2 heads that I sent along with the 907 heads to be rebuilt. I will have them tomorrow. Put the bike together tomorrow night and set the TPS on Thursday night and with any luck have it on the road Friday. That w...

Need help re: head locating dowel

I have finally received my heads back, all cleaned up with a valve job, etc. and ready to go back on the bike. I am heading for California next week and I would really, really like to take the 907. Problem is, as I was getting ready to install the heads this morning, the guys who did the work didn't...

Re: THE PASO GOES THROUGH ITS PACES ON THE DYNO...

I am far from an expert on the subject, but from what I have read, Dyno numbers can be quite misleading. There can be considerable variation from machine to machine and from run to run with no changes made to the bike. To get a proper Dyno reading, my understanding is that you need to do about 5 run...

Re: 907 shop manual and Haynes

George, I only acquired my 907 a few months ago. It was not running, with a number of theories regarding its ills from the previous owner and the dealer who last worked on it. So, like all of my machines, the first thing I do is source out some good manuals. This site has some great info and pretty ...

Re: Frame numbers / register?

Looks like the factory was busy in October '91. That seems to be when mine was date stamped. Red with frame no. 1573 and engine no. 1494. Gold Brembos. So at least 278 bikes were made in 10/91 from Dennist's 1322 to Duc907's 1600.

Re: Operating temperature

I'm a newbie to this bike...in fact mine is not even running yet, so any opinion I have is either from my readings or theoretical. I agree with Higgy's comments about operating temperatures in general. I recently acquired a copyt of LT Snyder's book, Ducati desomdue/desmortre Maintenance & Modif...

Re: How good is a 907ie?

Many thanks y'all. I've just come back from San Diego with an armful of parts and a nice tour of the local Ducatsi places. Cycleworks was particularly helpful. I picked up LT Snyder's "Ducati desmodue/desmotre Maintenance & Modification Guide (3rd ed) which is the best technical resource on...

Re: How good is a 907ie?

Many thanks to all. With the feedback and suggestions this bike will be back on the road. I have located what should be a good set of 907 heads from a low mileage bike, with valves but no rockers, cams, etc. Once I have them I will check out the valves and get them worked on if necessary, replace th...

How good is a 907ie?

I bought a '92 907ie for very little money as the PO thought the motor was shot. I spoke to the local dealer who had done some work on this bike and their advice was that these were pretty poorly designed and unreliable bikes from new. The rear cylinders run too hot even with the water cooling. The ...
