Re: Observations and questions, continued

Thanks, Nicola. Your suggestion did improve things, as did a vigorous ride to start the tuning process. Adjustments of the jets had a noticeable effect at 2K rpm, where the same at 1K seemed to have no effect. The results were dramatic, that I enjoyed for my entire 175 mile ride. Coming off idle, ac...

Re: Observations and questions, continued

Hello, Well, I fooled myself thinking the stumble was eliminated. Finally had a chance to do more work and here is what I found: Existing conditions: Rear plug black and oily. Front plug perfect brown/grey coloring. Tested spark (NKG DR8EA) with both plugs at both cylinders by grounding plug and cra...

Re: Observations and questions, continued

Thanks once again for helpful advice. Higgy, air leaks at throttle body: same opinion of my local foreign car mechanic, old ferraris etc. his usual pass time. In searching the discussion for air leaks, etc., and how to drill out idle air mixture screw covers (which I have never done), happened upon ...

Re: Observations and questions, continued

Higgy, just wanted to thank you for the incredible Weber doc that you and Romus put together on the 906 list (thought I'd go exploring the rest of ducatipaso.org and found it). Learned more about fluid dynamics and the Weber than I ever thought I wanted to know. Implemented your jetting recommendati...

Re: Observations and questions, continued

Thanks G, Went for a glorious 60 mile ride this afternoon to a German smokehouse to pick up fixings for Xmas dinner. Aside from the now officially leaking clutch slave o-ring (clutch worked perfectly all the way home!), my only niggling complaint is an intermittent miss. I tried to understand what m...

Re: Observations and questions, continued

I figured it out! Now I understand what the relay does, although the CDI boxes are still a mystery. I recreated the original wiring: front coil orange wires are the lead from the relay, lead from the CDI box, and shunt to rear coil; rear coil gets the second CDI box lead and the shunt. Started right...

Re: Observations and questions, continued

Thanks, G. Looking back for the simple coil mod, I came across this from 2012: <<<<<<<<<<<<<<< So step two would be adding a relay which is simple. Get a standard 12V relay with 4 contact pins. 1. Find a position to mount the relay 2. Disconnect the 12V feed from each coil (isolate one end), connect...

Re: Observations and questions, continued

Hello, This weekend I had a chance to complete some to the things on my list: thoroughly cleaned the clutch slave mushroom and throwout bearing, eliminating all notchiness. Repacked the clutch correctly per the FAQ's. Both seem to have improved clutch feel and actuation, at least on the centerstand....

Observations and questions, continued

Since my last post, I have put about 150 miles on my Paso, which were most enjoyable except for a couple of nagging problems related to the performance, and the clutch. As I mentioned previously, the carb was completely rebuilt, with jetting redone per JayH's experiments. And the clutch was taken ap...

Re: couldn't resist

Ok, I couldn't resist either. First joy ride since getting it to a rideable condition. 20' paint job by previous owner. Questions to follow in subsequent post.

Thanks.

Re: Observations and a question (or three)

G:

BTW, I did insert a small(er) diameter brass tube in the return fuel line to reduce the volume to the tank. And, from another petcock I had laying around, I did find a fuel filter that matched your photo...so that is now installed as well.

Thanks again.

Re: Observations and a question (or three)

Thank you all for your assistance with information, and in sorting out my carb problems. Synopsis after rebuild and substitution of jets per jayh, et.al: Needle Jet: 175 (came with rebuild kit; 300 was the original) Idle Jets: +/-53's (reamed out 50's that I bought) Main Jets: 165 Air Correctors: 18...

Re: Observations and a question (or three)

OK, so quite a bit different from my setup. First, my petcock had no filter attached. Second, I have three orifices into the gas tank, besides the filler: the supply, the vent, and the return (California tank I imagine). Vent and return are on the back of the tank. Cali owner's manual says the retur...
