Re: Buying secondhand

One aspect that should keep prices down as time goes on, is that certain semi-durable parts are no longer available to buy new. Things like the radiator hose set, a complex structure that's not easy to replicate, and the tail light lens. Some of the fun/challenge of keeping nice old bikes going is t...

Re: Ducati belt engines - a nasty secret flaw?

The fact that you mention the swing arm being chewed by the chain is a clue ,a chain that is to loose will flick up off the sprocket, chew right thru the chain slider and hit the swingarm , and the only way a chain can wind onto the sprocket is if its already broken .....lack of proper maintainance...

It worked out as expected, but good to have a second opinion.
Cheers!

Ducati belt engines - a nasty secret flaw?

I know of three instances of chains breaking on Ducati belt drive engines. One was a Pantah and two were Pasos. The result of each of these failures was a smashed crankcase near the drive sprocket, in every case caused by the plastic protector for the swing arm becoming dislodged and going straight ...

Re: Ignition timing sensor cable query

Thanks for your reply. Sorry, I had left out the word "two" in the first message, now edited back in so hopefully it makes more sense. OK, no pictures but you have understood the situation with regards to the wiring layout. Oddly, there are different types of cable at the connector junctio...

This forum's image upload system didn't work for me, so I tried Dropbox.
If that doesn't work, please let me know and I'll send the pictures direct to you.

Ignition timing sensor cable query

The connector between the pickup and the ignition black box is distressed, needs replacement. There appear to be 2 insulated conductors plus a shield on the cable connected to the pickup, and just 1 insulated conductor plus a shield on the cable coming from the black box. I'm assuming it needs to ha...

Alternator cable supplier?

I need to replace the cable on the 906, which has 3 wires.
Are there suppliers of meter lengths of suitable stuff?
Requirements:
10mm diameter of outer sheath
3 conductors, 18 gauge or equivalent (there are 30 copper strands in each, 0.2mm diameter)
Oil resistant
Temperature rating 90 degrees Celcius.

Re: Sprocket cover interchangeable?

The sprocket cover was described as fitting Paso 750 and 906.
It fits perfectly, with a cutout for the dummy clutch slave cylinder.

Re: Rear sprocket mounting dimensions?

The received sprocket carrier is an assembly - light metal casting plus steel sleeve, spacers, bearings etc. The casting looks to be identical, and it's the internal parts that differ. Need to swap them for the Paso bits. I looked at some drawings of the bevel 900SS assembly, looks like I need to do...

Re: Rear suspension unit

This one is a Marzocchi DuoShock too.
It was sent to a rebuilder with a good reputation, decision being the owner's.
They couldn't advise about the spacers, but I think I can see what's needed and will fire up the trusty lathe and make some.
Always good to get others' thoughts, so thanks fellas.

Rear suspension unit

The spring/damper assembly needs attention. It leaks and looks generally distressed. I see new replacements are not given away, so will likely get this one fixed. There is a ball joint assembly top and bottom (Heim joint I'm told), that is a press fit in the damper ends. The top one had moved over, ...

Re: Rear sprocket mounting dimensions?

I found what I hope is the correct sprocket carrier, and bought it via ebay.
It was not described as being fit for a Paso, but looks identical to the one here (modified).
