Whilst the most common FCR's pairs available are 39 or 41, Keihin manufactured many other sizes including 38/40/42 don't you know (lovely bike by the way)

I'm guessing you are chasing threads in an aluminium of sorts from what you're experiencing. You have to be soo fussy going back to clean up any threads and they are often best left alone as it's so easy to 'tear' more material out rather than remove burrs loctite etc. I've had more success using a ...

The screws may not be as far out as it looks as the housing around it is broken.

as suggested above Conor, remove the other idle mixture screw not just to use as a thread-checker on other carb, but because it needs a closer inspection in itself.. it shouldn't be sitting with the screw head exposed like that - it's usually quite recessed down it's 'tube'.
