Re: Tunnel Running.

I went back for another couple of blasts today. Fantastic.

I tried recording the sound with my Android phone, but the mike is so lousy the recording is rubbish.

Re: Ex-Center tool?

Thanks all.

I managed to get the chain tension right, and the wheel aligned. But it wasn't easy. It'll be MUCH easier next time.

Re: Recurring dropped cylinder.

Just got back from a 120km run, and the bike ran like a clock.

The loudest clock the world has ever known.

 To everyone for pointing me in the right direction. Thanks, all!

Re: Recurring dropped cylinder.

Yes thanks Higgy! My ignition switch connector looks nothing like that awful thing - it's pristine clean with no heat markings whatsoever. I went the whole hog, and unplugged every connector in the ignition loop, cleaning every surface as I went using contact cleaner WL and 60 to clean off deposits,...

Re: Recurring dropped cylinder.

OK, got the ignition switch out, but it is not the same as shown in the guide Higgy pointed me to. Mine has a plug and socket arrangement on the base, and when I remove the plug, the white plastic socket portion is mounted in the ignition housing with dents in the alloy housing. I fear I will break ...

Re: Recurring dropped cylinder.

I couldn't figure out how to remove the ignition switch unit. A mirror shows there's no way to undo it from below. I unplugged the circular plug from the bottom of the switch, and it all looked pretty decent, but I cleaned the contacts and the pins and reassembled it. It went back in nicely. Now it ...

Re: Recurring dropped cylinder.

I am about to begin Higgy's suggestion of the ignition switch. I have no idea how to remove it, and the manual isn't any help. I guess I'll just muddle through. *sigh* The failing pot is the top one - naturally. *double sigh*. Now, where to find a diagram and a-fool-could-follow-it method of inserti...

Recurring dropped cylinder.

Intermittent faults are VERY annoying. This one's a right B*stard. If I can solve this problem permanently, I'll be very happy indeed. Symptoms: * Only seems to happen when bike is warm. * Cylinder just cuts out. Doesn't surge and stop. * Stopping the bike killing the ignition and restarting does no...

Tunnel Running.

So, last night marked the 5th straight "Wednesday Night Ride" I have failed to complete for various reasons: Getting lost. Engine misfiring. Rear sprocket bolts shearing off. Getting lost (again) and last night, engine misfire again. *sigh* I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever complete one....

Re: Rear Sprocket bolts all sheared off

All, ship-shape now I think. Odd for a motorcycle I know.

Ex-Center tool?

So, I got my rear wheel back on with all-new sprocket holes and bolts. All seems good. But boy-oh-boy, did I have to use every single swear word in my repertoire, and repeatedly, in order to get the rear wheel mounted again. Then, aligning the wheel and getting the chain tension right almost caused ...

Re: Starting problem

Hi Romus. This is the exact issue I had recently which required replacing the starter motor. The armature was burned out after the brushes had worn and disintegrated. My understanding is that cranking for long periods of time (prior to the Hicap mod, which I installed at the same time) can significa...

Re: Rear Sprocket bolts all sheared off

1) Turn the sprocket back the right way and get a proper spacer made to go between the sprocket & carrier. This is a winter time job I think. But it is much more complex than simply doing that, as CB discovered with his D250. I'll see how this works, and if it doesn't break, I won't mess with i...

Re: Rear Sprocket bolts all sheared off

Wow people - I feel guilty with all the posts - and time taken. Thanks so much. I will try to address all questions asked. Well, I got the wheel off (Remarkably easily in the end) and I am ecstatic to report that the drive rubber is in perfect condition. Phew. No grease was on the rubber nor in the ...

Re: Rear Sprocket bolts all sheared off

OK, excellent contributions here, thanks very much people! Yes, I now understand that friction on the sprocket carrier created by the bolts is what is supposed to carry the force to the wheel. It still seems like a very poor design however. In my view the sprocket should have shaped lugs which inser...
