Re: I have a bad feeling about this

My Bud's 906 is destined for the track, and not for the street. He currently races a "bucket" out at Ruapuna, but wants something that will cost more, and hurt him more, both financially and physically - when he high-sides it. :P My bike appears to be riding extremely well now and the weat...

My D250 was touching the chain sometimes

Welp, having replace the starter motor successfully, I embarked on a cleaning and maintenance mission prior to riding again. I found that with the bike on the center stand, and idling in first gear, the chain would sometimes touch the outer rim of the tyre. My solution is nothing if not simple. With...

Re: I have a bad feeling about this

Yup. I think if I was 22 again, the false neutrals would really annoy me - because I would be riding at Mach 1 everywhere, risking life and limb. But now I'm so old I fart dust, and ride like it too - so it isn't really a big issue.

Re: I have a bad feeling about this

Thanks to everyone for your great input! I replaced the spark plugs and it fired up within 2 seconds on the first crank. :) This starting issue has been interesting (and fairly frustrating too: What idiots thought it would be a good idea to make the same spark plug but with two different socket size...

Re: I have a bad feeling about this

Thanks so much G, for taking some considerable time in your efforts to help me. It seems the very first thing is to yank the plugs, inspect them, and replace with a couple of new Champions. I am a big fan of good plugs and spend an absolute kings ransom on them for the Porsche. If I am lucky, this m...

Thanks Higgy. I suspect so. It seems obvious no company could release a bike with this many neutrals in it. I will solve the no-starting problem first, and then worry about this issue.

Re: I have a bad feeling about this

Assuming that the carbs are synchronized I can't see why they shouldn't be. It had the full-wax treatment before I rode it, that was back in May if this year. It has started well and run perfectly in the interim. Up until the starter shat itself, it was running superbly! I didn't touch anything oth...

Re: I have a bad feeling about this

Thanks for the tips on the false neutrals. I am extremely positive with my gear changes, as I have a ruined left ankle, with very little flexion/extension through the ankle joint. As a result I look a bit gimpy changing gear, but they are nothing if not firm and authoritative. I wouldn't expect the ...

Re: I have a bad feeling about this

Hi Fraser - yeah - I was aware of this one - and I took a look at that bike last night on Trademe. Looks like a very expensive disaster that will cost thousands to fix. I can see that hole is normal now - a huge relief. Thanks! The loose piece of case metal scares me 8-ways from Sunday though. G: Ye...

Re: I have a bad feeling about this

I'm very happy to hear the three marks made by the gear arm is normal. But, WTH with a design which impacts the engine case? o_O

Oh, that's right: built by Italians. :P

Re: I have a bad feeling about this

Thanks G. Edit: It's just a drop of oil on the arm. I actually pulled off a very thin sliver of alloy, with black surface on it, that was attached to that hole, so it seems reasonably clear that this damage has been caused in situ, and is not a manufacturing/finishing defect. It looks like it has be...

Re: I have a bad feeling about this

Thanks for helping me out! The metal piece measures 4mm x 3mm x 1.5mm (I edited the photo.) It has a black coating on al the surfaces except one, which is a fracture surface - which makes me think it is part of the engine case itself which has broken off. I took a look at the shop manual, and it *al...

I have a bad feeling about this

So I fitted the new starter motor, cleaned the water pump and refitted that, too. I'm wiping down the inside of the alternator case and prepping the engine cover surfaces for refitting when I find this: http://4sure.co.nz/paso/paso-problem1.jpg The red arrow indicates where I found this small piece ...

Starter: Nippon Denso 128000-6050 - found online @ $109.95

I having finally, after 1 week of trying, managed to free the knackered starter from the Paso. I hope there is a special place in hell reserved for the idiots who designed how it is removed from the bike. (Perhaps the Italian Motorcycle Maintenance Workers Union did a really good deal with Ducati at...
