If you meticulously study the cracks you will get a clue as to how it failed. depending what revs you were doing when it failed - in gear/out of gear will determine a lot. i'm not sure if it was the sole reason, but certainly one of the factors involved in creating such a small capacity version was it's suitability for the (then) Japanese market where a great deal were sold.
