What size allen wrenches are required to remove the front and rear axles? Also, where have most of you purchased the required wrenches from? The front appears to be a 15mm or 16mm. I prefer to get the wrenches in 3/8" or 1/2" drive form if possible.

Really big. Sorry, this is going to be a relatively worthless post in terms of factual data ...

It sounds like you don't have all the pieces to your toolkit? They're included in there, if you have them. I haven't gone looking for the wrenches themselves (although it's not a bad idea, now that you mention it) - but I do see the toolkits on ebay once in a while. Maybe Ducati Gowanloch has some, or at least knows a resource?

If you find a source, do us a favor and post here about it? Thanks!

I believe snap on tools sell them through their website but it takes a bit of hunting to find them !

my bike didn't have any tools with it... I found a sump plug socket fit the back perfectly and it might be possible to get something similar for the front. I thought this made it easier as i could use the standard 1/4 ratchet wrench.

The bike didn't come with a single tool. I really don't understand why most people lose the originla bike tool kits. Every bike I have bought with the exception of my 1974 BMW R75/6 was missing all the tools. It sure is aggrevating to think the tools are just laying in someone's tool box unused...

Those original tools are sooooooo bad quality, that i really DONT wonder, why everybody throw them away and buy better ones.... Anyway those allen wrenches are mm sizes, NOT ANY inch....

Bavarian,

My bike came with the rear allen key but not one for the front. I bought one for the front that attached to my socket wrench for ZAR32 (which is about US$5). I can't remember the size but I get my bike out of storage tomorrow (I was in a rented house from August last year while building my new house). Once I have got my bike back I will measure both the front (normal) allen key and the socket one and post the sizes here.

Bavarian,

The front axle allen key is 14mm and the rear axle is 17mm. The allen keys that fit on to a socket wrench are available at most decent hardware stores.

you can use a 14mm hex bolt & bend it to 90 deg. Just tried it & the make-shift wrench just rotated about itself.
