Ciao Piero,

Hi Piero,
Does the starter work freely, but doesn't the engine start?
If so, the freewheel was broken, and you have to remove the left case of the engine.
If the starter doesn't work at all, it could be any issue, from a fuse to...
Ciao

Don't worry Piero.
The brushes are inexpensive at all.
Besides, you can fit any kind of brush, it's enough they are bigger than the stock ones: you have only to reduce them to the right shape.
Good work.
Ciao

The brushed are easy (kind of) to fix. You need to take off the 2 oil cooler hoses to get at the end of the starter. Loosen the 2 screws that hold the starter together and the end cap will come off. You can then remove the brushes and get new ones. Finding to same size isn't important as they are very soft and with a file can be easly brought to the correct shape and size.

Put them in and then replace the end cap. You starter is rebuilt. It took me 1 hour to do this job. 2 days to get brushes.

Brushes are the same of newer engines The oem code is in the Paso spare part list, and they are quite cheap. I think I've posted detalis in 906 discussion. Try to search "starter"

i'm in a rush, so if someone needs, I'll translate later

Let's try translating:
Once you take oli cooler piper away;
Mark the exact position of all the starter parts (with an iron puncher will do!)
Remove the plastic protection ring from the starter and unscrew the two screws in the alloy bottom.
BE CAREFUL! everything can fall down now!
Pick all the parts away, taking care to the spacers in hte rotor.
one of the brushes is attached to the starter body. You need a good crafstman to change it.
The other one is installed in the spare set
When you reinstall anything you need to be careful to the exact position of the springs, the brushes and everythin else.
After one or two takes, you should be able to do it! (if you need to blast, do it silently, or when you are alone!!! :neener: )
At the end, be careful to the 12v screw, it seats on plastic spacers!

I wanted only suggest him to bring himself a calendar, in case he had forgotten some Saint to swear at (here in Italy, on the calendars there is a Saint for every day).
