750 paso clutch

I was out on my 750 paso the other day and i had only done about 10 mile or so and the clutch started to slip so i returned home and took off the fairing panel then the clutch cover to find that there was a clutch bolt and spring missing there were only 5 instead of 6 bolts and springs so i removed the 5 bolts and springs and found that a previous owner had snapped off a spring post and had tried to have it welded back on obviously without success hence the missing spring and bolt. Is the pressure plate still available from the dealers or will i have to try and find one elsewhere, do any of the other Ducati models share the same clutch?? here's a pic or 2 off the clutch.

That is the inner pressure plate (sometimes called an inner hub) - part #066516630 - and that post breakage is not too uncommon. I broke one on my Harley and had it welded up, only to decide against using it and bought a new one. If you have it welded, it needs to be perfect, as if it isn't, it will take the rotational forces when you let the clutch out and it will break, again.

Chances are, that probably isn't your slipping problem. Not that I would do it, but some people have been known to remove a couple of springs to make their clutch pull a little easier.

I don't know if they are still available or not or even if they are interchangeable with any other Ducati. Surfing eBay may result in finding one. If someone lists Pantah engine parts, I'd send them a message asking if they have that part.

So i could carry on using the inner pressure plate as it is and just renew the clutch plates??? i know the clutch slip was caused by worn out plates but the missing spring post was unexpected when i checked the clutch out. i am just waiting on a reply from the dealer about availabilty of the inner p/plate hopefully it's still obtainable.

You could, but I'd never do it. I've heard of people removing two springs, opposite of each other, to keep the pressure even and reduce the lever pull. I'm sure you could run it without the one spring with a new set of plates and probably never notice that it is missing, but if you do this, I'd definitely try to find another inner pressure plate with intentions of replacing the broken one.

I know a guy with an '87 or '88 750 that he was thinking of parting out. It has a broken case from a drive chain. He'd probably want to sell the whole clutch assembly, though. I don't know if he ever sold it complete or has parted it out, yet, though (he's in Athens, GA).

The one on Ebay looks correct and I bet it would work. I bought a 650 Elefant motor and it has the same one too. I would "assume" that all Pantahs share this setup, but cannot be certain. I have an extra one. Balancing the whole thing is the question? With that bolt and tower gone you are off center on the mass of the rotating clutch as a whole. Eventually it will cause you even more serious trouble, bearing failure, clutch drum nut-lock washer coming loose, etc.

Very good point. I didn't even think about potential issues that the offset balancing may cause.

The ebay 1 looks correct . thanks for the advice guys i will renew the plates and pressure plate before i run the bike again just waiting on a reply from the dealer to see what he comes up with.
