Potential PASO purchase

Post by MMA MIA »

I'm considering purchasing a 1988 PASO 750 and would greatly appreciate your input. Does anyone have a PASO 750 checklist of things to examine prior to purchase? (other than general motorcycle items) What are the main concerns you would have when considering this particular year and model? I have owned Ducati ST and Superbikes but no "vintage" bikes. My intent is to admire it's beauty and ride it occasionally when in a nostalgic mood. Thanks in advance.

Me having fun at the track:

There is a wealth of info on the care and feeding of the Paso here on this board
Ducati, making mechanics out of riders since 1946
There's no problem so bad that a little fixing can't make it worse! : )
If it ain't broke keep fixin it till it is

The Pasos are strong bikes.
You have only to see she has been well cared and the servicing done.
Searching on the forum you'll find many topics about.

Just can support what Persempre907 mentioned. Look at the general condition and on the service books.
My PAso has 42'000km, and never made troubles, although I put a special kit (784) which I guess produces 80HP. The bike supported it up to now, and still makes a lot of fun.
You have to know that you don't get anymore The original dimensions of tires. (Front 130/60/16; rear 160/60/16)
In front thats no problem. You put a 120/80/16 or 130/70/16 which is anyway better in terms of handling. Therefore you 'll need four spacers to lift the front mudguard.
At the rear it's a bit mor complicated. The best solution will be a 180/60/16. But therefore you'll need to move the chain.
Youll' find some posts on that matter. I'll do the conversion in a few weeks. I'll put the whole documentation on the forum.

Service Records. (valve adjust and belts replacement)
Condition and Make of tires
Electrical system. Inspect closely for originality and melted connectors. All repairable/rebuildable.
Clutch bearing and pin.
Case in front of sprocket.
Seized eccentric clamps on swingarm.
ignition switch working properly.
Installed carbs. Dellorot's a big PLUS.
Oil hoses going to coolers.

You have the euro tail light on there, that a plus.
The cans on there are not meant for the bike, they are crap.
Is the rear fender cut away?
Fairing fasteners are missing/wrong

More pictures would help us tell you what condition it's in. Miles?

What's the asking prioce?

Belts recently replaced, carbs synched, about 20K miles, don't know about fender etc. The other list of stuff to inspect is great. That is what I was looking for. Thanks. In general, it appears the PASO was a well built bike for the era. Asking price is $2700 but it has been for sale for a while. I think he'll take $2K.

It seems to me they are Yoshimura.
If I well remember, Yoshimura did the cans for the Pasos.
If it's so, they wouldn't be crap.

P.S. is that black cat sold with a bike     ?
Here in Italy, the black cat is a real jinx.

If you can buy it for 2K it's a STEAL!

Make sure the tires have decent tread left. New tires are getting impossible to find becasue oif the odd sizes so you will be looking at some new wheels and tires once they are worn out.

 Black cat does not come with the bike.

 Tires are checked (cracked) and need to be replaced. With the few miles I'd put on the bike I would only need one set to last me several years. I would prefer not to replace the wheels and just find a set of tires.

It will be quite impossible to have a couple of new A/M 59.
I would keep those cracked ones (I wonder...), but I would replace them with some alternative ones.
You'll find many topics about here.
2k is a very good price.
