Blue Paso blues
Hi guys and gals, long time no see, been many happy Paso hours till now.
I have 2 blue Pasos, 1 with all original fittments and 1 with Mikuni carbs.
The original 1 has been stood for acouple of years because the starter packed in and I didn't want to be delving into the engine at that time to fix it.
So I bought another, because the price was right and I liked them so much (Pasos)
Since then the Mikuni 1 has suffered the same problem, but I have now sorted both starters.
(thanks to the help and instructions from this forum)
Now the "rub"
Paso 2 (Mikuni) has started making "horrible" noises from the transmission, so I have put it away to look at when Paso 1 is running again.
Trouble is, Paso 1 only wants to run on one pot ?despite new plugs (which I hoped would cure it) and I'm not sure if its coil or ignition box?
I have seen several coils on eBay but not sure which to buy, after reading on here about compatibility and ohms ratings.
Can anyone advise which if any of the following would be suitable?
DUCATI 748 FACTORY HT COIL, LEAD AND CAP
Ducati 750 Monster coils
ducati desmodue 900 ss ie ignition coil
Cheers
Hopefully

Have you tried to interchange between paso's..? Or do you have one type with the digiplex system..?zedder wrote:Hi guys and gals, long time no see, been many happy Paso hours till now.

I have 1 of each system, the one giving trouble is the "Digiplex"
I seem to remember reading that these units are known to "drop off" onto 1 cylinder?
Also I may be the culprit as I have resorted to "jump starting" the bike off a large battery and I think I have seen on here that such a procedure can fry the box ?
I have swapped the coils over and the same cylinder refuses to fire so I am reasonably certain that it is the Digiplex box and therefore probably dont need new coils.
I have seen somewhere that there is a guy in America who rebuilds these units and ships them back with a "lifetime garuantee" ?
I cant find the webpage anymore
Any help finding him would be greatly appreciated

Re: Blue Paso blues
My Paso has a pair of Monster 600 coils and runs very well, but if you have swaped the coils and have the same problem maybe your pick ups are disadjusted. Did you tried to swap the CDI black boxes too? Good luck

Thanks for the web pages higgy :-)
I have been in touch with them and recieved a reply quoting $289 + $78 return shipping !!!
Looks like an expensive mistake
I'll let you all know how it goes after I've saved up for the repair.

Re: Blue Paso blues
Does anyone have, or know of the whereabouts of a wiring diagram for the 750 Paso with the "DigiPlex" box ?
I have tried the usual manuals and downloads but they all pertain to the "twin module" setup ?
The reason I am asking is because I have been asked by a dedicated electronic ignition repairer to supply a diagram in order to attempt a repair !!
I might add that said "wizard" is BRITISH !! and if he succeeds we have a UK based repairer for the dreaded Digiplex :-) which has to be better than sending them all the way to USA, and cheaper too
Hope someone can help ??
SOON ??

Re: Blue Paso blues
Thanks, sorry wasn't aware it was the same
I have now found all the information I need :-) on the 906 faq's
I even have enough info to fix one myself !! :-)
The 906 forum has a much more comprehensive section on the "Digiplex" I think a link to the 906 postings on it (Digiplex) should be on the 750 forums ?
Thanks once again to you guys I will be on the Paso again very soon :-)

Re: Blue Paso blues
Great news folks
Thanks to Blue Streak Europe who have tested my Digiplex and found it to be OK
At least I can look for the problem in the wiring now
How difficult could that be !!
But Many many thanks to Neil Pye at Blue Streak who is prepared to undertake repairs of the 750 Paso Digiplex
Even though its not on their list of repairable/serviceable units, if you contact them and ask for Neil Pye by name, he gas offered to test and repair them
This has got to be good news for UK and European Paso owners
http://www.bluestreak.co.uk/bs/index.php?id=enquiries
check them out before shipping to USA, its way cheaper and faster

Really, I always would prefer to fight with the harness rather than with the ECU....zedder wrote:At least I can look for the problem in the wiring now

You're obviously made of "sterner stuff" than me
When it comes to electrics I am "all thumbs"
I shall venture out armed with multi-meter and diagrams, I may just revert to standard wiring as its never run on 2 cylinders since the upgrade.
Even though I have checked and re-checked the upgrade shematics and found it correct
That seems a good place to start

Re: Blue Paso blues
Hi there,I thought I should reply as ive been going through the same problem as I to have
had all of the above, thought I had wired the John Slocum method the wrong way checked and doubled checked so I knew then that it had to be something simple,so I checked all the earths ie cleaned behind mounting brackets for coils where earth straps go and any other area that had an earth lead, charged battery put a new set of plugs in which are NGK iridiums and it starts first push on starter.
So hang in and

The Paso LIVES !!!!!!
The "all original" Blue paso on my profile pic
Finally got the electrics and carb sorted and it runs on BOTH cylinders !!!!!
A few issues with the instrument console (some "idiot" lights not working) but I can live with that for a day or two
Going for MOT at 2 pm so I hope to be grinning foolishly all weekend
I'll post again when I've done a few miles
Thanks for all your past efforts to help get me rolling, I'm sure I'll be needing your help at some point in the future because I won't be getting another bike anytime soon (if at all ! )
(had a house move to contend with & the Duke's got packed into the new shed first so it has taken until now to get at them )
Bye for now folks, have a great weekend if you can
