Damn Dellortos

Post by jcslocum »

Hey folks, I need some help tuning my Dell's. During the engine extreme makover this winter I had the carbs off and really didn't do much, just lifted the needle 1 notch. Now I can't seem to get them tuned right. Seems like it's running lean with a very floaty idle. ABout 1/2 the time if I flip the throttle it returns to idle, the other 1/2 it hangs up around 3K. No, it's not the cables. Been all thru that already.

Anyone have any super-duper tuning tricks?

Any help is appreciated.

Have you checked the slides, jon, to see if there is dimple worn into the slide where it hits the throtle-stop screw? If there is, proper idle setting usually impossible. Any wear mark must be filed out, and the throttle-stop screw turned in to compensate.

I had a similar problem, idled @ 3k.

Gear in and slow clutch release the only ting to take it down.

I got recommendation from a duc-shop to check the idle air mix, turning 1/2 turns in or out to start with.

I did not do it myself, the bike was in for service for other reason and I asked them to make this part, when I had it there.

I'll try to ask the mechanic what he did.
