750 Paso 16" front wheels

Post by ArtfulBodger »

Hi, I've just put a wanted ad in the relavent section of the forum to find a replacement 16" wheel for my Paso.
My one has a small flat spot I assume from a previous incident with a kerb before I bought the bike.
I hadn't notice it affect the handling until I recently put a 130/70 tyre on it, but now it seems to have amplified the issue.
Is this a common problem with these rims?
Thanks

there are companies that can fix bent rims. Don`t know how much that`ll cost though.

I also have a small flat spot in my front rim from a pothole encounter many, many years ago and I have never noticed any issues even after a recent tire change to the new 130/60-16 tires from Shinko.

Thanks for the replies so far, importing a wheel from US will be expensive as they are heavy,
I can only assume the taller profile has amplified the issue,
It's seated correctly and balanced.
It's improved the handling/turn in though..
Not that keen on cast wheel repairs/straightening as I've had one crack before (not on the Paso)

Most cast wheels can be straightened, especially if its a minor flat spot. Most of the time, the wheel comes back straighter than stock, Most of the guys will be able to save the paint. Going price is around $150, and you have to remove the tire and the bearings. So you have the mount and remount cost of the tire, and a new set of bearings to add to the mix, and of course shipping both ways. So basically, if you find a wheel that is nice for under $200, you are better off. (which should be pretty easy) Maybe shipping from the states isn't too much after all.

Cheers, Phil

There's a shop in NH that'll do it, too. I have their contact info somewhere & can post it if anyone's interested.
Just because you're not dead doesn't necessarily mean you're living, either.
