Just Dropping In (again)....

Post by Desmo_Demon »

Been a while since I've logged in. I hope everyone has been doing well. Life's been hectic since my wife's last accident when she T-boned a car making a left turn in front of her. I just never seem to have any time to ride, and the bikes are all degrading and mostly non-running these days. :,( Maybe one day I'll get them all running again and start riding.

Good man for nursing your wife back to health. I too am living the time crunch. I say drain fuel or at least fuel stab and battery tenders for all but the Paso or ST2 and ride only one until more time frees up. I have a couple of great 50-or-so mile rides near my home with some ridiculously tight turns that are always fun and easy/quick to do on a Sunday morning with a couple of friends every couple months. The key is keeping one bike ready to go. Riding is way too much fun to let it fall off your plate. Riding a Duck is very rehabilitative—more so than most vacations I can think of. I am very sure your wife would support your cutting out on a Sunday morning from time to time.

That looks like a fine collection of motorcycles a shame not to use them. Why not sell a few and use the money to get a mechanic to fix a few up? Sometimes it’s best to reduce the mountain before starting to climb it!

I was riding every motorcycle a few miles each month at first, but then, there simply wasn't any time. I work a 40+ hr/week job with 12-hours of commute every week. Then, I teach one to two classes each semester, have two rental properties that I do everything for, a third rental house I am rebuilding, and then I have a 31-acre horse farm I maintain. I don't have much time to even think about riding. I quit commuting because of my hours (was 4 pm to 2 am and now noon to 10 pm). I hit four deer the last four years while in a car, I sure don't want to hit one while on a bike. ;)

I can't bring myself to pay someone 300%-400% what the job should cost to have someone do substandard work. I can't remember the last time I didn't have to go behind someone and fix the job they did or found something they screwed up. Even if I had more of them running, I still wouldn't ride them (see my post just above this one).

On the bright side, I am hoping to retire about ten years early (seven or less years from now), and I plan on getting back into riding, playing guitar and bass, painting, and may consider writing another book.

I was getting a little burned out with riding before my wife's last accident, though. I was logging upwards of 26k+ miles (42k km) per year and have about 250k miles (400k km) of two-wheel fun under my belt. Which was another problem. I started running from the cops because my speeds were increasing, again. Just the weekend before my wife's last accident, I had the cops chase me into another state before I lost him. I was surprised he followed me into another state, actually. :D
