Today I fitted a set of Dynacoils 5 ohms on my Special SS

I am lsot for words... WOW.

the difference that makes on my bike is mind blowing.

I have to say i was a little skeptical, I must admit I was WRONG.

My engine has always had some issues when starting from a "dry" carb (ie after a couple weeks without starting it)

well the engine turned twice and the engine fired.

with a full carb (FCRs) it is already idling before even finishing the first 1 turn.

worth EVERY penny and EVERY drop of sweat I invested in making a new bracket.

Coils main effect is starting, f me anyway.

I guess you are right about the effect, although I also noticed that my Ignitech map seems to work differently on the first 1/5 of throttle, will have to recheck it and do some adjustments.

I am also planing of adding a TPS sensor so that we can have a multiple maps set up; The FCRs could be eventually retrofitted (it would cost a fortune tho') as there is a version that comes with it (Yamaha TRX, check Sudco catalogue), but i think I can adapt a TPS sensor from a small car , I just need to find some time to check few TPS sensor datasheets and pick the correct one

I will post a picture of the bracket asap; basically I "sort of" copied the original of the SS (the one on the Airbox under the tank) and made it slightly taller to fit the new height of the coils

I used 2mm aluminium, I am not sure if it will last (vibrations) so I think I will need reinforce it a little on one side

I live in UK since 1999, I have my SSSpecial here, whilst my 907ie plus the others non-Dukes I have are at my parents in Italy.

swapping coils was the first thing I did even before replacing the carb.
If you didn`t already try a lighter flywheel also (not extremely lightened though) and you`ll be surprised and ask yourself why you didn`t do that earlier - again.

HAHA yep... i know, i know :mrgreen: :twisted:

my SSS (SS special) is only a 750, but it has:

- straight teeth primary gear 71/37
- Heads were coming from a Paso 750 the ones
with gold rocker covers and Big valves (41/35mm).
- NCR cams ,
- FBF Pistons, effective compression is 12.2:1
- FBF Flywheel,
- shotpeened conrods/primary/gears,
- FCR39 carbs
- Dynacoils
- adjustable cam-gears with "new" belt profile (round)
- Programmable Ignitech ignition.
- lots of polishing and smoothing, lightnened rockers and of course balanced cranckshaft, rods and pistons
- Hybrid gearbox with shortened gears

the only thing I dont have is a proper antislip clutch, unfortunately being the same as the PASO it is impossible to find one unless I design it myself....

The orther thing I would love to do (actually I am working on it) is to add a TPS so that I can have multiple ignition maps.

with some differences like the modified gearbox it sounds like mine.
I just have a 780 kit instead, bigger valves and carb than yours. The rest is similar just from other manufacturers.
If you ever need another set of conrods I still have a set of polished and balanced ones. I wanted to use them myself before I found a sweet deal on the Carillos.

At the moment I am playing with the standard settings including the different DP AL9000 module settings.

I noticed that a smooth encrease in the advance seems to work better that sharp changes, but I guess the best would be doing it properly once fueling is definitive.

Now runs nice at idling, although I there a small void between 1500-2500 rpms which I believe it is caused by the extreme hot cam diagrams; in fact anything above 3000 rpm and the thing just explodes.

I am not very experienced with FCRs, I will get assistance form the dyno people it will take the bike to (PDQ in UK)

The big test will be on the dyno, I am very curious!

I am loosing the use of my hands... 10-15 years ago, I could do lots of very delicate jobs in no time, now to crimp two connectors and two coil leads it took me 2 hs.
