Rear shock is same as SS series from '91 on. Maybe easier/ cheaper to just get a nice SS aftermarket shock. Most aftermarket shocks will allow you to also change the ride height.

Another option is to get a more modern shock to upgrade. Discuss with your suspension specialist.

As far as bracing the swingarm, I can't tell you one way or the other. I have no idea if they are heat treated or not, but I would suspect so. That is a very rare swingarm. Only used on the Sport and TT2 (I think), and many cracked, so not many left out there. I have two Sports, and both have been adapted to SS swingarms. Of the few Sports I have seen in public, about 30% had cracks in the swingarm. In the past 7 years of ownership, and watching e-bay, I have seen one swingarm come up, and it sold for over $500. Careful with that axe Eugene.

I agree that having someone do your suspension is money well spent. Had my ST gone through and set up for me and it is indeed lovely. So much better and more planted than before. Its the first thing you should do to a stock bike.

The rear shock is getting a replacement Race Tech big port piston, new seals etc. That'll make it work a whole lot better i'm sure.

I now lean towards not bracing the stock swingarm. I know of a new one for sale locally for $150NZD, after reading your post perhaps i'll grab it!

Not at all. The front is $970, rear will be 350-400 depending on how many worn parts there are. Not cheap but well worth it!

1400 all up is really good i thought! It'll make a lot more than 1400 worth of difference

I can now confirm it had the standard Marzocchi M1B front forks and standard rear shock, Mustang505. Ended up going for a new Ohlins rear (DU 321, modified to suit). 2k all up, front and rear. Felt amazing for the 200m i rode it before....

A new issue had arisen and it seems the bike needs a new regulator rectifier. So my mechanic tells me anyway.... I'm not at all mechanically inclined. I'm hoping someone can tell me which is the correct one! I have trawled through the posts on this and other forums without being able to arrive at my own sound conclusion.

You should also add a ground to the chassis of the rectifier just to be sure.

Maybe my 750 has the electrics from an older pantah or something? That would explain the older coils you pointed out earlier in this thread.

That one for sale from Bevel Heaven would be single phase. 3 phase didn't hit until the 916. Even the first year ST was still a single phase. All single phase rectifier/regulators will fit, you just need to connect the wires. Since you have the spade connectors, then it is indeed simpler to replace with one that looks just like it. The others would work, but you would then need to cut and splice wires.

If I had the choice and were at a point where I needed a new reg/rect I definetely wouldn`t take an original one. Not only does it cost twice as much as aftermarket ones but also the quality is not as good. The old original parts are infamous for their failures and I had 2 brand new ones that were not ok (too high output).
Of course aftermarket parts will require to modify the wiring but that`s an easy thing to so and definetely worthwile.

I'm a little confused about the third wire to the stator and where that joins up to on the aftermarket reg / rec unit. I'll take some pics today if I get the chance.

EDIT: Question answered by searching forums The two yellows get joined into one.
