Ignition hiccup

Post by ducinthebay »

The Sport is running better than ever. I got new o-rings on the intake manifolds and balanced the carbs (36 Dells) I got up to 120mph last weekend, and just generally had a great time.

But the bike has developed an odd new malady. It hiccups about every 4-6 minutes. At constant throttle, or even accelerating, the bike just misses a few strokes, then picks right back up. Its like the ignition just shuts off for a few revolutions. Haven't noticed it before, but now its rather constant. Like some playing with a light switch.

I plan on taking out the ignition pickup (only one on the Magnet Marelli 2S system) and cleaning it up just to make sure its working. I've heard that cleaning off those shim washers on a regular basis is a good idea also, as they set the distance of the pickup.

Any other ideas of what I should go look at while I'm staring at it?

Thanks in advance.

Had a similar problem on the 906. Turned out to be a combination of the ignition switch and the wiring to the module. In the end I replaced all the terminals at the module and the switch. Hasn't missed a beat since

Hi,

Too bad... Is it on both cilinders? Did you by accident disturb some other system (electrics) with the last repairs?

Hope you will find it soon...

Yeah, its both cylinders.
And yes, I was fiddling with the connectors by the ECU.
I was putting in a breather box, and pushed the wires around alot. I guess I'll go back and check the connectors. Seems likely.
Thanks,
