Just test assembling front end and for the life of me see nothing that stops the whole drive from spinning around ... can someone show me what should be there with a photo showing drive tab against Something

the drive tab is inside.
The speedometer drive housing won`t spin. As soon as the axle is tightened it`s backed against the fork leg on the outer side and against the inner bearing race on the inner side. What that tab is for I always wondered.

maybe that tab helps to hold the speedo drive in position when the axle is tightened.

Maybe that speedo drive is also used on a different bike, possibly from another manufacturer, and the tab lines up with a slot in the fork leg. Given that the majority of the components are bought in I'd think that quite likely.

Hmmm. My ST has a stop for the speedo drive. Not sure what is on the 907, which would be pretty close to what is on the 900 SS. I'll have to look.
