The piston looks good just tarnished, feels reasonably smooth, the cylinder has like a buildup of tarnish which feels like little ridge areas, so far only cleaned it with paper towel, also so far I haven't been able to remove the circlip, I must employ someone's help to upload photos , surprisingly the amount of heat I used didn't seem to damage the seal or oring but yes they will be replaced

Closer look at the big o'ring/seal it appears that it was not seated well , bit sort of twisted and looks as though it's been that way for some time, guess that wouldn't have helped

Just glad I decided to do the gaskets or I wouldn't have known how bad the thing was and put up with it, this way a much better bike for it, if I can't get the clip out though , may end up having to shell out for a new one!once again any ideas greatly appreciated

this is going to be fiddly. You'll need to fixate the piston somehow and use two needles (or very thin screws) to get the circlip out. One is to stop one end of the circlip so it won`t turn while you try to push the other below the circlip in the groove. If you manage to get below it you have a chance to push it further below lifting the clip out of the groove or at least far enough that you can use a screwdriver to lift it out or grab it with pointed pliers

I`m wondering. Instead of trying from the broken ends is it possible to get behind the clip from the top?

You know the 2 flat sides on the piston skirt, just broke one , too much vice and wrestling no doubt, oh well don't have to worry about that clip anymore, to the person who put that clip in, fooey

My piston has flat sides on the fluid skirt, looks to be to take a c spanner or vice , I can't see that on your thread about these things, yours seems completely round

There is some scoring on the covers cylinder wall although it's quite high I don't suspect it will cause any problem I cleaned so far with a green scotchbrite pad

Having a closer look at alt side cover now , 1st thing I notice is the stator cable is 3 wires ext but 1 is cut back at the 2 terminal stator? Any one removed flywheel sightglass, I guess it's same as oil sightglass and just knock from inside ! And get a new one
