The 89 is back from the shop, all running nicely albeit some oil weeping from around base gaskets and possibly the head to barrels, is retorquing the heads a possible fix ?

Not usually. It normally requires lifting the barrel, replacing the o-ring for the oil feed at the RH rear and reseating the barrel with a smear of 3-Bond. The base 'gasket' is aluminium. This can be done without separating the barrel from the piston if you are careful.
However, on your bike I don't think it's possible to lift the rear barrel high enough since the frame gets in the way preventing removal of the cylinder head. Only option is to lift the frame from the engine/swinging arm assembly to get access.

Thanks Derek, I've nailed it down to only 1 area which is the head to barrel on the vertical pot, base seems ok, does that make it worth a try at retorquing ?

Afraid not. The head/barrel seal is a spigotted joint, there is no gasket. Tightening it won't make a blind bit of difference. The oil will be weeping from one of the 3 o-rings. There are 2 larger ones for the drains and a small one for the oil feed at the RH rear which is most probably where the leak is from. Replacement of the o-rings will be the only fix.

Now I'll mention the other oil leak!, although I believe this one is sorted, going back to the clutch control finger breaking off in the shaft, I tried drifting the piece out from the left under the little 3 screw cover, turns out there's a small pushrod with orings in that side , well that went so far and stopped dead, unknown at the time it's gone far enough to open up a cavity which spewed oil out behind that little cover with the 3 screws , not wanting to remove the clutch for a 3rd time I helicoiled the opening and put a 8mm screw and fibre washer, seemingly fixing that one, fun and games
