Can a 906 be changed to fuel injection

Post by wazzawiseman »

Can a 906 be converted to fuel injection like the 907 ( 907 has same motor), i possibly have a chnace to get fuel injection/carb setup and computer from a ""Ducati 900 engine 2001 from SSie"", question is is a conversion easy? has anyone done it?

see the engine being sold here http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=68399852

any info would be appreciated

thanks guys

it`s for sure easier to switch engines than to just try to mount a new fuel injection on a stock 906 engine.
I never did this or know anyone who tried, but I`d say what you need is:
throttle bodies
CDI units
wiring
maybe pick-ups/flywheel (not sure if these are the same on 906 and 907ie)
maybe fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator
don`t know if there`s a lamnda sond, but there must be some kind of sensor
If the throttle bodies have a different size or shape the 907ie airbox will not fit and then problems will continue. I`m sure this is no "bolt on" job done on one weekend.

Davidhooau (registered here) converted his 906 to efi with a homebrew electronic.
His system operates with lambda-sensors

It can be done, and seems, that its easier with 906, (than 750 what is in my mind...) But anyway, is it WISE to do that ??? If U can get all those stuff easily with no money, then it takes only time to do all that job, but if need to buy such stuff, i can imagine, that its "waste of money" to do it. It can be so high priced, that it doubles Your Paso price and who is ready to pay to You such amount of money to buy "injected 906" ??? 907Ie prices are quite same, as all Pasos, so WHY TO DO SUCH? Better to sell 906 and buy 907IE. Thats my opinion only, somebody can think other way... AND what You get, if U convert 906 to injection??? ONLY some hps maybe, some torque? I think, not so "wise".

I totally agree with it.
Perhaps, if you would want avoid the Weber unreliability you could fit the Mikuni or Dellorto carburetors without any electrics change.

Sorry guys, that little far from topic, but Francesco, I was with my ST4S in eastern/southern Europe, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania...etc 3,5 weeks (8400kms) and after that too much work was waiting me at workplace, so no time to read/write to this site for 2 months  But seems, that soon little more freetime.... :D Btw, i had ECU problem in journey with hot engine, but now its fixed by new FIM ECU and i also dynoed my bike 2 weeks ago: 111hp from backwheel (127hp from clutch) and 100Nm torque came in 6800 RPM, so i am VERY SATISFIED to my ST4S

i had the same silly idea to convert to efi :screwy:
started with buying p8 ecu, trottle-body ...

...now i believe, i won´t finish this project.
the benefit isn´t big enough for this job - my weber is working fine

I asked David from Australia. He did this job with a homebrew ecu and lambda-support. He said, it´s better to use the komponents from duc/cagiva

Can be done! But you need all inlet parts thru to ecu .May as well buy a 907 dude .Whats wrong with your weber? Can pull more horses easily from that carb at a fraction of the cost!!They are so restricted its not funny[air flow wise] Due to european air emission regs.We have a magician on webers in nz.Murray @weberspecialties in the big A/land .Full range of kits & jets readilly available.e-mail weberspx@ihug.co.nz
or ph 094435638.He drilled the accelerator pump jet [40thou stock]to60 thou on my carb .Man what a differance!!!
Cheers Andrew
