routine maintence paso 906

Post by hardo »

Hello Paso Fans,

in which intervalls do you check valve clearance, belt tenion, and
renew engine oil on your Paso 906? I did it every 5.000 km, but I
found out that the owner's manuel wants you to do that every 3.000 km. Do I save on the wrong end? Do you have any experiene concerning routine maintence on a 1990 Paso 906?

Thanks a lot for your input and keep on riding,
Hardo

Hi, 5000 km for the manual, but I never met a duc that needs such a short interval for tension and clearance check.
The only REAL interval is 12000 miles /20000 kms for belt changing
Someone (like finnpaso) says that pasos need a very lighter maintenance than desmoquattro engines :D
The manual gave me the lagest past of suggestion I need for maintenance and various sites tells you how to change belts.
Of course it's not the everyday "do-it-yourself" job, such as painting a door!
have a nice ride, Nicola

Hola:

I did everything indicated in the Paso user manual after the first 3.000 km but, after that, I have followed my "instinct":
- Valve clearance and belt tension adjustment every 10.000 km, approximately.
- Oil replacement every 5.000 km.

According to my old local dealer (the one I bought my 906 in 1990!), the belt should last without any problems for more than 40.000 km, but I think this is like playing with fire. I changed first mine with 30.000 km but I think is much better to follow the recommendations of the manual to be in the safe side, as Nicola indicates.

Regards.

routine maintence paso 906

Post by JWilliam »

Routine maintenance is a pleasant subject for a Paso owner. Belts seem to last forever they only need to be adjusted once, shortly after fitting and I only change mine when I start to feel guilty about neglecting my parts supplier. I change the oil every year but what is more important is the grade. I recommend 15W40, silent and positive gear change with low mechanical engine noise and next to no dirt on the magnetic pick up sump plug. Valve clearance doesnt seem to change - and it only does if you over rev your engine. I clean my competition air filter every 3 months and change spark plugs after 6 months.

15W-50 fits better to Ducati engine, especially to gearbox... Those, who here have started to use 15W-50 in they Ducatis, dont want to go back anymore to lighter stuff.... Me also! Shell Advance Ultra 4 15W-50. And oil change every 5000kms WITH new filter! But surely everybody think this "oil" little different way, so no need to make here "big war" about it, I think, if be happy, then no need to change to different oil. :D
