Setting timing manually.

Post by supak9 »

Hello all,

I've got my bike all back together but can't get it to fire. When it is turning over it is 'puffing' back out through the carbs.
I thought, simple it must be 180deg out, so pulled the timing case cover off again, pulled the gears etc, rotated the timing gear drive cog 180deg, put it back together but still have the same problem.

Any suggestions?
Does the timing fire on the front or rear cylinder?
Am I missing something simple?

I've done the obvious by turning it over by hand and checking the valves are open and shut when you would expect depending on what the piston is doing.
There is a good spark, plenty of compression ....

Thanks for your help, Rob.

Thanks for the thought but I already have a copy of the manual and it doesn't tell me much other than how to ensure the timing marks are lined up - which they are.
I guess it's pull it apart again and have another think....
