Sure it was 14 volts, but will check again....also I hack sawed a few mm off the fins on the RR51 unit for extra clearance for the shock pipe fitting, used compressed air to refill the shock too, seems ok now,,,,

ps was thinking of adding an in line fuse to live supply to the RR51, as a safety feature, as on the original reg/ret any thoughts?

I am not sure now, but remembering, that in hot wire from regulator to plus pole of battery there SHOULDNT be a fuse. Can it be so, that IF fuse blows, then also regulator blows? (cause current can go to battery, all want to go to ground direct via regulator and then it "burns" from too much current) I really cant remember, what was original wiring... :banghead: Have to look chematic...

Hi there,
I'm from Holland and own a 906.
My name is Chris and I have a strange problem with the charging system also :-(
I placed a new Yuasa battery(16 Ah) and also a good rectifier on the bike but everytime the battery runs down ...
When I'm driving for a while with lights on.
When I put on the beam-light the bike has a wrong ignition and makes a loud BANG
Can anyone tell me what I should check on the bike ??

Greetz,

Chris.

sounds as if your bike is running on the battery and the regulator/rectifier is not loading it. If the reg/rect was replaced lately you may check if the wiring is correct, if not it`s probably no good. (I bought 2 brand new ones from a Duc dealer years ago and both didn`t work properly)
Some infos are in this thread, here`s a fault finding chart http://www.box.net/shared/u6ny9gj6s0 and you may find some other info in the P750 FAQs.

After another failure of my alternator I have had it rewound as a 2 wire system. I also had to change to a different regulator.

The good news is that it only charges at 14.2 volts now. The fellow that does the rewinds told me the 3 wire system is a problem. Apparently other Ducatis (I think older ones) run the 2 wire system.

I can confirm.
The older Ducati need the 2 wire/2 phases R/R.
I also had problems with the R/R wich catched fire (I can't tell you my scare when that happened). Fitted the Electrex and no problem since.
