Fuel tank cracks

Post by jomo »

Is everyone having the same problems as me? Or, did I just get the greatest problem of the century?

At about 35,000km, the rear of the fuel tank where it bolts to the frame began to leak. I had it braised. No problem.

At 45,000 km, it gracked around the front mounting (under hard braking, fuel was spurting over the steering head with over half a tank).

I had it braised unsuccessfully. I have since used an epoxy metal to seal it. Working great.

If anybody wants new painted tanks, call Gowanloch, but don't expect to get a dark blue 906 tank, it will turn out to be a mettalic 750 tank.     \

I'm told they bought 2 container loads of parts from the factory!

Jomo,

I had a similar problem with my 907 leaking around the front mount. I fixed it with JB Weld and have had no problem since.

Yeah, what he said. Same exact thing on my 907.

What difference is there between the 750 & 906 tanks? Are they still interchange-able?

I have 80,000 + kilometres on my 906 & have had no problems with the tank & no recollection of any repair work on it so I assume I got a good one

the only difference are the stickers. The P750 has the Elephant and the Ducati wrinting above the silver line, the 906 only has DUCATI below. Then the colour combination of the stripe is different.
Otherwise they are interchangeable.
The 907ie tank is probably also identical, though I cannot confirm this as I don`t know how it looks from it`s underside.
I`m driving a 906 tank on a 750.
