Paso Charging Problem

Hi,
My 91 Paso won't keep the battery charged. I'm in the lucky situation of having an entire spare engine & loom, so I've tried the spare reg/rec, and it still drains the battery when running. So.... what's the next step before taking it to bits to get at the alternator? All hints and tips gratefully received.
