Cyliner Head Markings, what do they mean?

Post by thefudginator »

Hi There. Just stripping down one of my Paso's and have noticed two things about the motor. 1, it has not got an engine number which I am assuming is because the crank case must have been changed ?? 2. there are markings on the cylinder heads of HU. See picture. Anyone know what the significance of these are? Feedback appreciated.

It is a habit I cant seem to give up!

What's HU?

What picture?

I'm assuming 'timing marks for belt change' is the answer to your question, if you mean these.

My SS had V2 on them , cant remember what Paso has but HU sounds familiar , I think they are just model ( of the head ) codes , like W heads have a hemi chamber , V's have the bathtub shape , other changes were for bronze or cast iron valve guide , removable clip on later models allowed the opener rockers to be slid aside ( as opposed to being removed completely ) to allow access to the closing shims.

They means just what McTool says. They refer to the particular head design and components. The heads on my 907 are marked HZ. The 900SS I used to have had V2 which was desirable, unlike the W2 on some 900 Monsters which had smaller 750 sized inlet valves.

Ah I'm with it now, I thought 'HU was short for 'Horizontal something or other'. Wake up time I guess . . . :O

Yeah me too Mark , I actually ( in a moment of unbridled optimism) thought that maybe my V2 heads had been fettled by Brook Henry of Vee Two fame .............but no :-(
