Changing the oil in my 907ie and this came out in the old oil. Made of lightweight alloy, I think. Anyone know what it used to be?

No idea I'm afraid but I wouldn't like to find it in my engine!

I’ve never been into a Ducati transmission but that looks like a baulk ring/syncromesh?

Hi All,

To me it would appears to be a fragment from a bearing cage...

Cages can fail at times and are typically supplied in a host of materials, ranging from brass, nylon, etc etc, right through to cotton/phenol resin.

Just note if it does turn out to be part of a cage, chances are you will continue to come across more fragments, and in time the bearing will likely collapse...

Regards,

Marc

Thank you for those replies. The bearing cage or retainer seems to be the best answer. What bearings are in there and how difficult is it going to be to get in and replace them?

Crank, clutch, gear output etc bearings. SKF are cheaper.
You have to separate engine blocks.
Shimming crank etc not too difficult.
Primary gear a real PITA to remove, real sturdy puller
and great care needed, it could fly off w force!

Indeed it does look somehow familiar and like a crankshaft bearing cage but it can't be if it really is lightweight alloy (or is it actually magnetic?).
Whatever it is I'm wondering where the rest of it is.

Have a look around your sprocket area to see if you have had any welding done from/after a snapped chain as you never know it may of been stitch welded from the outside and this may be a small fragment from the inside of the casing? Both my engines have been welded previously and I didn't realise it until I had cleaned all the crud away.
