are there any big bore kits left ...?

Post by rosstb »

Hi

My 1992 907ie twisted a conrod into oblivian, taking out the barrel/sleeve, piston and a valve. It came as a surprise to discover the bike had a 94mm big bore kit in it - nobody had fessed up to this at the time of sale.

I'm in OZ and we (the mechanic and I) haven't been able to source a kit here or from Ducati.

If anyone out there knows of some reprobate hoarding a big bore kit in a shed somewhere, please tell me.

I love the bike and want to get it back on its glorious (steroid induced) song.

Hi Ross,

you may try http://www.Pistalracing.it, they produce a lot of pistons and cilinders for Ducati.
Also Wössner in Germany is a possibility. (http://www.woesner-kolben.de)
on the website of Silent Hektik I saw they can resleeve your cilinder. They promise a lot, and probably you have to pay a lot.
Resleeving depends on the damage done to your cilinder/piston.
Conrods?->Carillo or Crower both US suppliers

Hello all,

Many thanks for your suggestions.

So far, I've had positive responses from Fast by Ferraci in the USA, Kaemna in Germany (http://www.ducati-kaemna.com) and am waiting to see if Ian Gowanloch (OZ) has something hiding in the shed on his farm.

I'm yet to check out EBAY USA, Wossner or Pistalracing but will do so soon....

None of them will be cheap but it will still cost less to re-kit than to take the bike back to standard specs which has been roughly quoted as $5,000 to 6,000 Aust. So getting practical help has been just fantastic for me. The only irritation is that I had planned to ride the bike to the MotoGP at Phillip Is but it wont be ready in time.

Redpaso - I'm in Canberra. Good to know I'm not the only tragic around here on a fully faired Duke.

The big bore kit on ebay is Fast by Ferracci as seller. It is going for $1450 US. Seems like 11.1 compression is high for the street, too bad they don't do stock compression.

Stein-Dinse is listing it for € 1213,75 (#400006005) or
http://shop.italo-shop-neuss.de/product ... r-900.html

both expensive compared to Ferracci.

If all you need is pistons, they are readily avaialable in 944 bore. Cylinders can be replated. ST2 will bolt on.

The ferracci kit is a rip off!

I dont know Staine Dinse kits, but 900SS big bore kits DONT fit to water cooleed engines. I played with this big bore kit idea many years ago, but then i realized, that most of kits are for air cooleed engines, not fot water cooleed, BUT if shop promise, that they kit fits to water engine, then it MUST fit! :smoke:

The pistons will fit but the air cooled 900ss cylinders don't have the water cooling jackets. It's VERY easy to have the stock cylinders bored and replated. I did this to my Multi this past winter. It cost $321 for the overbore and Nicasil replating. ST2's are already 944 so that's an easy change.

...and RPM counter modification...

Btw, does anybody know, does 907 and early(97-99) ST2 have same con rods and crank shaft system? i mean now, that if put ST2 sylinders and pistons, does it need to put also better con rods and crank ????
