How I made my Custom Exhaust for Paso 907ie

Post by DonaldoDuck »

Hi Guys, Some of you have asked me for more details about my custom exhaust so I have put together some of the details for you. First, what inspired me to build my exhaust was a desire for the best sounding most exotic looking Paso I could dream up without severely changing the lines of the original beautiful design. In 1995 I saw the original 916 and like everyone else that laid eyes on this bike fell in love with the high under seat exhaust. This gave me the idea to start designing a similar look for my 907 without changing the tail section and rear frame. Once I started the design was easier than I thought and cost me no more or even less than the best systems available from the aftermarket. For me, I think I have achieved the perfect look to finish off the Paso and the sound and performance is completely tunable with the SuperTrapp mufflers.

Image

The build details:
All parts Tig welded by me
SuperTrapp 4” conical muffler with 2” inlet and 2” outlet core 18” muffler body from in to out
Muffler’s hung from original alloy turn signal bracket at rear
304T Stainless Custom S mid pipe with 1.75” inlet from header pipes that flares into 2” pipe
Each mid pipe has (1) 45 degree elbow and (1) 90 degree elbow to complete high pipe bends
Mufflers are spaced 1.5” from bodywork
8MM spacing between pipe and swing arm on both sides
Passenger pegs received 1.5” Stainless spacer to keep WIFE happy (very important)
Muffler bodies at the rear are 8” apart under license plate
Muffler cores are 10” apart
Center stand bolts on with no interference

Currently, I run the pipes without the end caps and they are not too loud at all. If I want a more quiet exhaust I insert the plate and let the disks do their job. I carry the end caps under my seat in case I need to install them. By having disks at the end of the muffler and no end cap the sound gets more raspy. 12 disks open is what I like the best. I found this setup to work very well, sound is excellent and I cannot drag any parts in really twisty aggressive riding.

Best of all, I have never seen another Paso exhaust like it and all for less than the cost of an after market maker.

Use this link to check a bunch of photos that I have taken of the exhaust so you may see from every angle how it is put together.

Please click on the video/sound links if you would like to hear the bike running and revving .

You have to put the pics somewhere in the web (there are many free hosting websites) and then you have to link them.

What exhaust pipe routing have you got from cylinder to silencer? Is it the standard crossover union?

Yes, I used the standard head pipes with the cross-over in tact.

well...I have to say THANKS...you have shown us the most beautiful picture we will ever seen (and for free...hahaha)your bike is really nice!!! I also have a red 907 I.E (1991) where I live...in Argentina (south america)...but I don´t have those mufflers..in fact...do you know where (in the states) could I buy a new exhaust system? But I need just to take mine away and install new...I can´t make any changes...I don´t really know how...and noneone here has the " courage" to do it...maybe Akrapovic...or Two Brothers...or Termignoni...don´t know...a known brand has a special kit specially for this bike...someone told me that Two Brothers has built one...but I think they don´t produce it anymore...
Also...do you hve some information about what happens if I install xenon light? Also...do you know how to install Garmin Zumo on it?
I will appreciate any help you could give me!

See you!

It really a sweet set up. very nice and looks quite stock.

I do have a very small nit to pick though.... Why didn;t you cut off the original exhaust mount rings from the passenger pegs when you did this install and polish the areas that were cut off? :-)
