Fork Height in the triples on 907?

Post by ducinthebay »

Gents,
I'm putting the front end back together, all looks good so far. New oil in forks, greased the steering bearings.

How high do you run your forks in the triple clamps? Mine were about 3mm above the top triple when I took it apart. In general, I like a bit quicker steering. Can I get away with 10mm of fork showing above the top triple? The limit is hitting of parts with the front wheel/fender, such as the radiator and fairing.

I have bar risers, so I can slide the forks up in the clamps quite a bit. All else is stock.
I searched the forums, but didn't find anything definitive.

Cheers, Phil.

ducinthebay:

I set my bike up using the tried and true method of ride height, suspension sag, and so on. See below:

http://www.suspensionshop.org/tech_suspension_setup.php

As far as my front forks, after the ride height, sag, etc. was set, they are pretty much all the way up to where they stop against the stock bar mounts.
I'm about 6'-0" tall, 225 lbs.

Thanks for the response. I got the suspension set up procedure already, but was looking for the limit of how high I can run the forks above the triples before the front wheel starts bumping into the bike at full travel.

Not by very much before they hit the handlebars bolted to the top yoke, unless you've gone for a different handlebar arrangement.
