Headlight beam cutoff - MOT

Has anyone had a problem MOTing their UK Spec 907IE, 906'. .... ? My bike is a low mileage (5,234) standard UK bike bought new from 3X in 1994 with UK spec headlight, speedo etc. However it just failed its MOT because the dipped beam rises to the right! A bit of black tape fixed that and then it passed. I bought a new UK spec headlight and it is exactly the same. Strange or is this well known?

Thanks for any advice.

Hi, I just had my 906 MOT' ed by my local mot man. Nothing even mentioned when he tested the headlight ( sure he would mention it , if it was swinging the other way!) To be honest this is an old school MOT place where he is 'sympathetic' to old bikes' and the mot is more of a time to chat about bikes with an old bloke whilst he fiddles around with you bike.
I'm sure you have considered this anyway but maybe you need to find another mot guy who is not such a stickler!!
Best regards

When I got my 907ie it also dipped to the right and must have gone through it's previous 15 or so MOTs with it. I replaced the headlight with a good one from a Yamaha FZ750 that I got off eBay. Funnily, back in 1979 I bought a 900SS as an ex-demonstrator from the importers which was only a few months old and it too had a headlight that dipped to the right.

Thanks,

Yes, the previous MOT's have been no problem! I take the point on finding a tester who isn't such a stickler. However, he is quite handy for finding all the nuts and bolts I have forgotten to tighten up :-)
