SH673-12 Regulator Question

Post by dennist »

New to me 1992 907ie. Need information on the SH673-12 Regulator/Rectifier that is on the bike. It appears not to be original tho connections both look factory. It is not in factory place on side plate but it is attached to the front dash bar and does not look like it came from the factory attached like this. Bike charges but the ignition light on the dash does not come on when key is turned on. On my 1991 I had the same problem (sold it 7 years ago) with an after market regulator installed which we found out worked fine but did not have the ability to activate the dash light. Changed it to another one and dash light worked. We checked the light on the dash and it works when grounded out so it is ok. I could not find the answer to this on the site so am asking what you guys have encountered with this type of regulator, dash light works or not? Thanks for your help.

Google says the SH 673-12 is originally used by Ducati under the part number 54040131A and was installed on Ducati 748 `99 SPS, 916 `98 and 996 SPS.

Thanks for the website. Was wondering if any of our 907ie forum members had any experience with this exact regulator on their bikes if same was installed. Dash light work or not with this regulator? Thanks.

according to their owner's manuals neither 748 nor 916 have a 'charging light'.
There are universal kits: https://www.improvingclassicmotorcycles ... oducts.htm

There you go, that was the answer I was looking for. I did not think to go to those manuals like you did, bravo! I thought that that regulator might not light the dash. Thanks again for fast and accurate and useful information.

So what do you guys use in place of original regulator when it goes out and you still retain the working dash ignition light? Or do you source out a stock one?

I'm using a Shindengen FH020AA mosfet regulator with a charge warning light device from this guy operating the light in the dash.

I put a cheap led voltmeter on mine as have many others to answer your dilemma
Ducati, making mechanics out of riders since 1946
There's no problem so bad that a little fixing can't make it worse! : )

Rick's Motorsport Electrics sells model 10-001, Universal Regulator/Rectifier for $120.95 that has the dash light wire. This was verified by an email answer from them to the question. They also sell model 10-001H which is a Universal Hot Shot Regulator for $152.95. www.ricksmotorsportelectrics.com. I have decided just to go with the current installed SH673-12 since it works great and just do without the light coming on on the dash for right now. Thanks for all you guys for responding. Cheers.
