Another 907 back on the road (almost)!

I couldn't wait any more and had to post the good news: my '91 907IE was sitting for 13 years and now should be back on the road before the weekend!
Back in 2001 I bought the bike from the original owner and rode it exclusively for 3-4 years, eventually putting 21k miles on. Then I bought a 2001 Triumph Sprint ST and it was much better suited to longer distance riding which I am into now, so the Ducati got no attention. Sold the Sprint and got a BMW K1200RS which I still have and has been the focus of all my rides up into Colorado, Utah, South Dakota, New Mexico, Arkansas, etc. And the Ducati sat... Finally about 2 years ago I gathered a bunch of supplies to refresh the 907 but then medical stuff with my wife, a job change, and two daughters' marriages took center stage.

Finally I decided it was time and decided to give myself a birthday gift in getting the Ducati back on the road no matter what. Got all the service items done I could do at home, then took the Ducati to the shop last Saturday for the remainder. Last thing was to replace the brake lines because they were old and looking bad - found some from Speigler and those will be installed today or tomorrow. Can't wait to hear it running again with the cored factory pipes! Planning to be much more active here now that the 907 is up and running again. Would love to see this site more active with the few of us left - I plan to do my part moving forward.

Nice looking bike. I wonder tho if the original mapping can handle cored silencers since they will make fuel/air mixture a lot leaner.

Great point - the original owner installed the Euro/off-road only chip when the pipes were done and it runs flawlessly. I still have the US market (lean) chip that he saved and included with the sale to me. That, and the Corbin seat are the only things that are not standard from factory delivery besides normal consumables.

I didn't set out to maintain it as a museum piece but I love the bike exactly as it is.

Hi Guys, don't think I've heard the term "cored silencers" before. Just mufflers with the internals removed? Thanks Arch.

Yes, The cans/silencers were virtually gutted and the tube you see when you look in the end of the silencer was welded back in place. Looks completely stock but sounds amazing. Hardest thing the welder says he's ever done- like a ship in a bottle.

BTW, I did pick up the bike yesterday and it is so great to be back riding it again!! Forgot what it was like - and the contrast with my K1200RS is surprising. Now I have to fix the fuel gauge, and see why the cooling fan is making noises.

So glad I made it to a season in life where I can enjoy this bike all over again!!

That sounds like a good birthday present to yourself, keep the bike as it is and use it! There are too many older bikes not ridden because they are pristine! Well done on getting it back up and running

Thanks Benelliman!

The Dallas - Fort Worth market is massive, but the Ducati dealership says they haven't seen a 907 in at least 6 years. Our bikes are getting more rare all the time, I read somewhere that there is only one with an active license in the whole UK! For better or worse, this one is going to be seen out on the Texas roads much more now.

If you are correct I must be the 1 in the Uk my bike is licensed and on the road!

CONGRATULATIONS!!
You can double check http://www.stillontheroad.co.uk and see that you are the last one.
I don't know how many are left in Texas but I doubt there are many.
If only we could meet up to see each other's bikes and take a ride together...

No wonder this forum is quite I thought there were more bikes on the road here and many more in the US! I have aftermarket exhausts on mine and it sounds great, I like to hear an engine running! I had a newer bike recently and on tickover the only way I New I had not stalled it was to look at the Rev counter!

Now we know, the future of the UK rests on your shoulders- I know it's a lot of responsibility but you can do it! Several years back I took the 907 to an Italian car show that had added a bike class. I met a guy there who also had a 907 and realized he lived a mile from me; I better ride over there and knock on his door soon and see if he still has his!

Completely agree about newer bikes- except for the stupid Harleys of course. My old 2001 K1200RS still has the stock exhaust and is very quiet. When I first got it I would sometimes hit the rev limiter because there was no sound or vibration giving me a clue. A riding partner of mine has a Staintune on his which sounds great but they aren't made anymore.

I am afraid Harley’s do nothing for me ! Not very good for UK roads! What I love about Italian bikes is the passion they are made with ! When I travelled to Italy on my Benelli 900 for the Benelli centenary in 2011 there was such passion and pride in Pesaro for Benelli. Bikes were welcome everywhere and displayed in shops, we were treated as guests and had a fab week riding around the Italian hills. I think if you own a Ducati you would get similar treatment. The other great place to ride and watch motorcycles race is the Isle of Man meet a lot of people from the US who enjoyed men being men! Not many rules on the Isle of Man live and let live! I

I cannot stand Harleys, or most of the characters who dress up in road pirate/outlaw costumes and ride them. But I do understand what you are saying about the passion built into these bikes and most everything else the Italians make!

Parts are getting to be a problem here - could not find that nylon slider for the chain that goes on the center stand anywhere in the US. Paid about $13 for the part from Germany so decided to get two since shipping was $30! Hopefully the electric fan and fuel gauge will be easily sorted out.

That site is a load of rubbish. It has been discussed before. My 907ie is also on the road in the UK and has been all of the last 8 years I've had it. And there are more than a few others.
