Why motorcycle safety training is such a good idea. Looks like it would have paid for itself, in pride points at least.

I hear you there. I preach MSF to anyone that says "hey I wanna get a bike".

Back in the day, I got my first bike used while in college. It was 1979 and the bike was a Yamaha TX-500 with monsterous dual overhead cams. It may have been something for it's day and was enough to scare me a couple times early in my riding. Iirc, top speed was about 106 if I was laying prone with my feet back on the bookrack.

Fast forward to 1987 or so and my kid brother picks up a Ninja 250. Wow how technology jumped! He got a ticket on this thing doing 115 down the 101 outside of Pt. Magu. Now-a-days I look back and think about how lucky we were. I took my first Class in 2002 and still learned little somethings. (Granted, I had been off motorcycles for a dozen years or so.)

When a friend asked about buying a bike I said, "First take a class. I'll pay half when you graduate." It's worth that much to me to see a friends success, and not have to see a failure.
