Where Do You Store Your Bike(s)?

Post by Desmo_Demon »

People often ask where you keep your bike stored at, and I finally got around to getting some pictures of my "Bike Room"....a converted room in the house, just for my motorcycles. Here are a couple of pictures of my Bike Room.

Beyond the first picture on the right side, I installed a pocket-door to the laundry room, so I don't have to worry about a swinging door...

Image

In this picture, you can see my 3'x4' map of the USA where I have marked all the places I've been on two-wheels (44 states, 2 Canadian Provinces, and Mexico). On either side of the map, there are 8"x10" pictures of places I've been....most of them have a picture of a bike in it....

Image

Since the "Bike Room" is too small to store bikes and allow work on any major project, here's a picture of the adjacent room with the disassembled Paso and various bike parts. You can see a 748 yellow fairing on the left, a side fairing for the ST2 under the headlight (has "944" on it), a complete '94 SS900 front end next to the spare 748 front wheel behind the bike, and all the Paso bodywork is hidden behind the Paso......and a full set of GSXR fairing is boxed up next to the stereo speaker......The parts on the white plastic bag in fron tof the bike is the disassembled left fork leg for the Paso with the slider missing (out for repair)...the small cardboard box has another upper triple-clamp for the Paso.... :D

Don't think he's told the tale about his wife on this forum, BUT, he has a polished diamond, not a diamond in the rough. Believe if it came to him or bikes must leave, it would be a tough call.

Actually, the GSXR and the Paso are HER bikes! I really think she likes to ride as much as I do.....well....probably more than I do.

Here is an interesting read about her......it covers some about her head-on collision with a car in June of 2003, her injuries to include a paralyzed left foot, and the electric shifter that she needs to use to be able to continue to ride....

I'm always shocked when I hear about bad accidents.
I can't forget the pains after the accident where my malleolus was broken.
The driver of the car said me that he didn't see me... but he had a glass eye...
I hope your wife are fine.

Last sunday, I made a little trip and met an old motorbiker, 77 years old, who had been riding his Moto Guzzi Airone 250.

I would like to do the same thing with my Paso.

So, I'm driving very, very slowly.

Better, that You change to guzzi then.... sorry, now, very fastly! But "shit" can happen with guzzi also. No matter, what is brand it traffic, when something goes wrongly, BUT still better practice bikes handling/learn braking in track...

It's great that you have two rooms for bikes, in the house no less. Are you ever bothered by fumes at all? It appears you take meticulous care of the machines and doubtful you have a single leak. Still though, have you had to install exhaust fans to the rooms or make any other mods to the house? I think just the smell of the tires alone would bother my wife.

I currently have to stuff my two bikes into a one car garage with lots of lawn equipment. I have a 10x20 shop on the side of it to accommodate repairs and winter storage, but it is still a work in progress.

As regard as the latest bike (160 hp and more ) our Ducatis are very still.... like the Guzzi Airone....

But, it's true, the "shit" is no respecter of persons.

I love that room. I have a 6m X 6m 380sq Foot Garrage That the bike shairs with all my windsurfing gear tools, storage and other toys. there is still room for my wifes car a BMW 740i but that dosen't spend much time in there becouse we have 2 boys aged nearly 4 and 6 and those push bike handle bars are great at scraching bikes and cars. The other thing with boys is they love dads tools so I have to boy proof the garage every time I finish a session. I don't really want to spend money to extend the garrage another 3m X 6m becouse I only intend to be in this house another 2 or 3 years. After that it will become another rental and 3m extra on the garrage will not increase the rent that I get from it.

Hats off to Those of you with bike rooms.

Live as many dreams as you can.

The gastank petcock (valve) was worn-out and would let gas leak past it. It would eventually get dumped out of the carb overflow tube and onto the floor, so I bought a huge catch-pan. I have since replaced the petcock and have no leak issues. The gas smell got pretty bad, sometimes, and I have made it a point to keep at least three fire extinguishers available....just in case.

Other than this, the only time that there would be any fumes would be if I start a bike in the house (with the french-doors open) or if I bring the bikes back into the house right after a ride. You'd be amazed as to how much heat a bike will release after a ride! It will warm up two rooms of the house by a couple of degrees!

The rubber smell of tires is not an issue. We've got the six sets on the bikes, and another 3-5 sets of spare tires, either new or mounted to spare wheels, and we never get any smell of rubber.....Oh yeah, the fumes from using a carb or brake cleaner will permeate the whole house, though! The last time I used spray carb-cleaner in the house took two days for the smell to go away (it was most noticeable if you came into the house from outside). In cases like this....or when I am using automotive paints, I close the downstairs doors and try to limit the amount of fumes that will get to the other parts of the house.

I keep it in the garage, I spend more time there than I do in the house.
