I had a 98 which I spent 4 years modifying it, then finally went and got a 2002 ST4s. I try to take one long trip every year, and put about 5-6k on it every year. Mod list is: DD headlight, Dzus fasteners, 43 tooth rear sprocket (cause I can't find one bigger yet) CycleCat bars, heated grips, lowered pegs, 916 front fender, additional tail lights and turn signals, Ducati performance seat, Remus pipes. Coming this spring will be heated grips, Stebel Air horn, auxilary lights, and a spring tune up.

Cheers,

I would say, that better in all meanings compared to 907IE(Best Paso!), EXPECT taking fairings off :,( ... Its faster, more powerfull, better handling, better suspension, very realible, easy to maintain, better for long journeys, etc.... :smoke:

like all younger sisters, the ST is faster, better handling, more comfortable, less maintenance, etc. But true, she lacks the fiery good looks of her older sister. Shame they couldn't have graced her with better looks. But I end up choosing the younger sister over the older sister time and time again. But as Finnpaso points out, you got to do some work to get her clothes off. They both have a place in the garage.

At least AFAM have Z=45 rear for ST4s, but its aluminium(hard anodised), AFAM number: 51609 45 Also 900 S4 Monster uses same rear sprockets, same also in 1000GT SPORT, 1000 PAUL SMART, 1000 MONSTER S IE, and 1000DS SS.

I have also heard many times, that reason for Paso series Ducatis poor selling was mostly "bad looking"... Its with Paso such thing, that you love that looking, or you hate it totally.... I understand well why they made so full fairings to Paso, as it have that awfull looking square tube frame what had to be hidden totally.... They never since used such anymore, as Ducati want that frame must be seen, as its one of Ducatis most important things, as they want to stay in this Trellis frame (since Paso times!) and show it to customers.... :) Anyway i like Paso looking very much, especially 750 Paso.... And there are also very nice details in ST fairings, like direct side wiew from under headlight, especially with DD headlight kit, It looks just like sharks head mouth little open(air inlet)... :)

Not more than the other ST      .
But, she's a great engine: much more torque than the ST4 and enough power.

Here are facts: Modell, torque/rpm, power/rpm((crankcase/clutch), as it is different compared to power from rear wheel))

ST2: 82Nm/6500rpm 83Hp/8500rpm
ST3: 93Nm/7250rpm 102Hp/8750rpm
ST4: 84Nm/7250rpm 107Hp/9500rpm
ST4s: 98Nm/7000rpm 117hp/9000rpm

So, what can we see very simply:

*ST4 is just 916 engine swapped to ST frame, "high rpm engine"(like 916) with "same torque" as in ST2! U can get with ST4 only power in hig rpm compared to ST2!

*ST3 have more torque compared to ST2 and especially ST4, what means well planned engine from factory! But little less power than ST4 in top.

*ST4s have notable more torque compared to ST3 and its power is much higher than other modells.

* What rpm can get that best torque?
ST2 gives it lowest: 6500rpm, then ST4s is next 7000rpm and then ST3 and ST4 gives it 7250rpm So what? Thinking "easy use" it goes same way, ST2 easiest, then ST4s and those ST3 and ST4 needs MORE rpm for "easy drive" => something went wrong in ST3, as it needs so much rpm to get best torque! => compromise again from factory: there is good torque in ST3 but u can get it quite high rpm= not so easy for "normal drive", if dont want to keep rpm so high whole time.... max torque can be reach with ST2 750rpm lower than in ST3 and in ST4! Its alot! Everybody knows, that 916 engine(also ST4 needs MORE rpm to function well), as its "race engine" swapped direct from 916 to ST frame=>not so good combination!

These are my own conclutions from facts about torque and power.... For me that torque is much more important than max power, so for daily bike i choose ST2(easy to use) and if i need plenty of power, then i take my ST4s(plenty of power and torque) with very good suspension parts.

World is full of choises as everybody knows... :smoke: Nice time to everybody here with this topic

Ciao
U are right, but u can get that max torque quite high rpm compared to ST2 and ST4s..... so, thats why those ST2 and ST4s are "easier to use". I have also tested very hardly Finn Ducati importers ST3 and i feel it immediatelly after my ST2 that now i have put one gear smaler to gearbox to reach that "torque".... it need 750rpm more than ST2

I think that newer ST model with higher front fairing(too high!) looks awfull compared to older ST modells... but they wanted to get some customers more from touring "BMW side" those times as i read from mc magazine... :)
