the REAL troubles of ST3 are maintenance and suspension.
If you can afford the heavyest costs for maintenance of all st series, anyhow you need a complete set of shocks to get a rideable bike!
By the way, my great friend Simone that works in Florence made for me a great tuning of the OEM showa!

U are right:
One my Ducati friends who maintain all Ducati modells told, that ST3 is worst of ST bikes for valve clearance adjustments(not enough space for fingers) and about suspension: That later modell ST dont have adjustable tie rod(tirante "by italian") in rear suspension, so its impossible to adjust height of rear.... Its possible with adjustable tie rod in that older ST frame... :)

Ok, ok, you have persuaded me.
If I'll think about a ST series, it will be a ST4s.
Excellent suspensions and... all the rest.

 Ok, Frankie, U are soon elecrician, so its much wiser to choose "old modell" ST, as also I CANT do so much to that newer ST, as there is that CAN bus system what needs dealers very expensive equipments.... That was also one point, why i choose older modell ST...

Both my wife and I have '98 ST2 bikes. Mine has the airbox mod, FBF eprom chip, and Forza slipons. My wife's has the airbox mod, Triton eprom chip, and D&D slipons. I bought mine new in 2000 and have put over 50,000 miles on it (and it has survived two crashes). We bought my wife's a while ago with about 22k miles on it and we've only put about 2000 miles on it, so far...

Even I just manage to screw a lamp, now, I also would prefer a bike without CAN bus system      .

But, I'm been told that newer system is not so bad.
Ciao

Ridden a nicely tuned ST2 (hicomps etc & sorted suspension) and it was a very nice bike.
But it doesn`t make my heart beat faster, too bland looking, a Duc must be beautiful!

I also thought the Paso was too much fairing etc f 15 years, then I suddenly realized,
it is magnificent!
