An ages-old question among myself and several musically-inclined friends: if you were deserted on an island w/ a solar-powered CD player and your choice of 10 CDs, what would they be?

I realize this is quite possibly an ever-changing list for some, but take a snapshot in time, right now for us. I'll start; they're not in any particular order, listed by artist/album:

1. Dixie Dregs, "Bring 'em Back Alive"
2. Al DiMeola/John McLaughlin/Paco Delucia, "Friday Night in San Francisco"
3. I Mother Earth, "Scenery & Fish"
4. Stevie Ray Vaughan, "In Step"
5. Greg Howe, "Greg Howe"
6. Joe Satriani, "Engines of Creation"
7. Joe Satriani, "Flying in a Blue Dream"
8. Miles Davis, "Kind of Blue"
9. Soundgarden, "Superunknown"
10. Joe Satriani, "crystal planet"

Note: I realize, with the onset of MP3, the concept of the CD is beginning to go the way of the 8 track, vinyl, and the do-do bird, but in future years, and among our teeming youth of today - the question does cause one to focus their attentions on an artist's work, instead of one particular song.

Although, if I had a choice? I'd much rather take a solar-powered iPod w/ 60gb capacity to fit the majority of my music ...

Post up, let's see 'em.

This is actually a pretty hard thing to do but here is mine for this moment in time. I have cheated a little by putting in some that i bought as "2 for the price of 1" deals

1. The Pogues. "If I should fall from grace with God/Rum Sodomy & the lash"
2. Luther Allison. "Live in Chicago"
3. Natalie Merchant. "Live....." (can't remember where from)
4. John Lee Hooker. "Boom Boom"
5. Blues Brothers. "Soundtracks from 1 & 2 "
6. Dave Graney 'n the Coral Snakes. "The soft & Sexy sound"
7. talking Heads. "Stop Making sence"
8. Luka Bloom. "The Acoustic Motorbike"
9. Renee geyer. "sweet life"
10. Nina Simone. "Here comes the Sun"

I also have a CD of Ducati Sounds that I would have to take as well

Roll on that deserted island

in no particular order, I chated too by counting double albums as a "CD" ;)

0 An Evening with Chick Corea and Herbie Hancock
1 Pink Floyd - The Wall
2 Pat Metheney Group - Travels
3 Chicago - The Chicago Story
4 Rush - Retrospective
5 Keith Jarrett - The Koln Concert
6 Mingus - Epitaph
7 Miles Davis - Someday My Prince Will Come (kind of blue was taken)
8 The Police - Synchronicity
9 John Coltrane - Live in Japan

I'm mostly a jazz fan, but being trapped on an island I had to mix it up with some stuff that would give some variety.

A 60G iPOD or the likes would do me just fine.

Mike - I'm actually looking at my 3 Chick Corea CDs (just about to rip them to MP3) ... 2 elektric and one akoustic band. Don't have the 'evening with ... ' - that sounds like an excellent choice. I was having a tough time trying to decide about Rush ... I was thinking of Moving Pictures but Retrospective is a good choice.

Mike,

I guess you work in IT. Nobody else starts at zero...

If you guy are going to bring all that other stuff (which sounds very good) I’ll bring some jazzrock from Africa (South, Central, and North), some Elvis, some Dylan’s greatest hits, Warren Zevon’s ‘Excitable Boy’ album, Steely Dan’s ‘Can’t Buy a Thill’ album, Grace Jone’s ‘Inside Story’ album, some Ray Charles, and Mozarts Requiem in D Minor.
