having migrated from Italy to Australia in 1971 we worked in my uncle's tobacco farm in Cheshunt south, this is a beautiful area in north eastern Victoria at the foothills of Powers Lookout.
Around 1975 I purchased my first motorbike...a very old Honda CB175, being unlicensed I used to ride around the SEC roads (Goverment dirt roads to service electricity transmission lines)
On one fine day as I was riding at some speed, I noticed a wombat eating grass on the side of the SEC road near a coner (inside part of coner) as I aproached with my very noisy bike the wombat got scared and started to run (WOMBAT= very solid animal the size of a small pig, cant see well, almost blind) as the wombat was running along the road I took the coner wide to avoid the animal, but the wombat started to cross the road...so I went right to the edge of coner to avoid it, he kept crossing the road...and...BANG!!...we collided , my front wheel went over his round body and the wombat wedged himself between the wheel and the frame of the bike (what is the chance of that happening?) we came to a sudden stop, the wombat was hissing and sort of growling and trying to bite my leg at the same time, it was scared... and I was more scared...I shifted my leg away from his mouth, grabbed the handle bars and lifted the heavy road bike while I was still on it, the wombat wiggled himself out still hissing and growling and ran into the bush.... I looked around still shaking and took a deep breath, composed myself and rode home
