Any one familiar with this type of bike? (1986)
Starts but won't continue running . . .rebuilt carbs and petcock.
Can't seem to get anyone @ the kawasaki 454 forum to help.
This bike is also similar to the Vulcan and the Ninja - carbureted.

Maybe try changing the filter or check the fuel pressure/flow at the carb fuel inlet.
Is that an electric pump or just gravity feed?

Also check to make sure the vacuum shutoff valve and hose are good and check the port at the carb end for cabon build up., It's been a long time but I seem to remember there being a vacuum controlled shutoff and the line is prone to breaking and the valves go bad as well could be an issue. kawi's of that era also had a lot of relays tied into the headlights and things can cause ignition issues but make sure the fuel supply is good first if it starts, runs then shuts off. lemmie know

Meanwhile . . . 2+ years later - I realize i have done the very thing I find so damn annoying with the "forum world". I have perpetuated the "unresolved, left hanging, pointless endeavor of not finalizing (reason or not) a thread I started.

Well, regardless, I put the carburetors back together incorrectly and suffice to say, once I corrected the originally inserted backwards (can't remember the name of the part - just that it was the largest of the jets, central to the venturi) part, buttoned up the airbox and filter it ran just fine. mind you short of making sure all was sealed tight
it still ran crappy - who wants to ride in a recalcitrant position over half a ninja motor
anyways.

BTW - the 454ltd is an excellent learner for anyone under 145 lbs stupid enough to wear an open face or brain bucket - sorry just the image I have in my head of the type of rider lost in the dreams of making a Haight street fashion crawl!!

Geez . . . I'm still an ass!
