Garmin Zumo coast here 500€ and that VDO Dayton PN 2050 coast about 189€ !!!!! Surely Zumo is waterproof, but that is not any problem to me, cause there is plenty of waterproof bags for navigators for 20€ price....... I have invested so much money to my ST2, so cant buy 500€ navigator... :,(

Very many thanks, Jon, but thats not hole story: I have to pay very high taxes and VAT(to Finn government) and shipping, cause if new stuff is coming from USA to EU raea, then need to pay those high taxes, VATs, etc, in that country, where that stuff is coming.... :,( Then its not so cheap anymore..... I wanted to buy DD headlight kit to my ST, but at least i managed buy such from my friend, who import Ducatis from Italy to Finland and in one ST2 was just that DD kit. He give hole DD kit with very good front fairing to me and i give to him my normal ST light and normal front fairing... So, it was "change"...ok, i give him also big bottle of good whisky, so then he sell that bike with normal light system and i was very happy.... :D :D :D :D I know, that USD is weak, but its not "hole story"... Anyway Thanks!

Really, if you put on the parcel the real value of the navigator, you'll pay both the customs and the VAT on the declared value.
But, if you put "gift" or better, a $. 20 value (which is the franchise value for the EU customs offices) and a the description as "broken device" or so, you'll not pay anything    .
Ciao

I come to UK and France 5-6 times a year and could mail it from there. I have folks that work for me that travel that often as well and can probably make a monthly shipment of small items! I brought hubcaps for a 66 Mustang 3 weeks ago to Paris, 3 power commanders, belts and an iPhone. No sweat at customs. Nothing to DECLARE!!

If and when the dollar improves I expect a reciprical agreement......

I send already question to Garmin Fin importer, that is it possible to download Europe maps to Garmin Zumo "USA version" and how much it coast here.... Anyway i think, that map downloads coast quite alot and surely USA ZUMO have USA maps, not Europe maps... We shall see, what they answer....

ok, i found Garmin map prices, "Hole Europe" coast 250€ in DVD !!!!!!!

http://www.garmin.fi/product_info.php?c ... cts_id=114

and same in SD memory card 149€ !!!!

http://www.garmin.fi/product_info.php?c ... cts_id=826

VERY EXPENSIVE MAPs !!!!!

I want also to remind, that i have heard, that here toll office make plenty of "fast checks" to such packages, what are marked by "gift" and price is under that "20€" and if they find, that someone try to cheat toll, then customer is very big criminal and then price is VERY HIGH! Have to be very carefull, if use such methods to import things to EU area.... And surely need plenty of LUCK !!!!

I got answer from Fin Garmin importer: Easiest/cheapest way is to buy 149€ m.card(Europe maps) and put it in to navigator and start to use. In that case there are still USA maps in background inside Garmin and Europe maps are in m.card only. So; it needs at least 149€ investment, if buy Zumo "USA version" and start to use it here in Europe... :smoke:

Does the VDO allow you to make routes and upload them to the unit? If not I wouldn't buy it.

I think, its possible, because there read: "Position Independent Route Planning" in they sites:

http://www.vdodayton.com/default2_and_f ... _2050.aspx

And how it function so, that in the morning i put name of place to GPS, where i want to be at evening? Or did U mean route planning by pc and then download "3 week route" to GPS ?

I mean the 3 week route that you build and then follow. This is the key to satifactory GPS routing on the bike.

Ok, i know, what U mean, but normally when i go to south Europe, i know way to there quite well and when i am in south, THEN i make some plannings, where there i want to drive. I dont know exact route yet, when i am starting, so that character in navigator is not "so" important to me. If i would know exactly, where i want to drive/go, then that would be nice to do in pc and then load to GPS. 3-4 weeks is enough long time to change plannings and look, where is better weather and follow high pressure areas. I try to avoid low pressure and heavy rain and i look weather forecasts near every day, how low/high pressures go and then make my "day by day" planning....

Anyway map updating from internet is very important character in navigator to me, because here in Europe map situation is such, that those navigators dont have yet very good maps to "eastern European countries", but it goes better and better every year and i found from those areas much more intresting things to see, than from west Europe. Very good example is Romania, what is still very poor country, no matter its already in EU and there is marvelous nature/wiews/peopple and already accomodation systems function enough well there and its still very cheap country for traveling.... strong dark beer coast about 0.40€ / 0.5l , here in Finland its 3-4€!!!! Also other "things" are very cheap there! ;) ;) ;)

But, I don't think the navigator will be useful in such things...           .
