I dont have anything "special" against Greek's (no matter there is "hell of hot" in mid summer with motorbiking), but, at the end its good for them, that they have to pay alot from fuel, as i have to pay to them (money transfer from Finland to Greece) "for lazy lifestyle" what they have there. Eu rules.... I quess, that inside EU peopple know what i mean.... sorry my bad english... :( I want go out from EU, as this start to be very grazy system allready. Do i have to pay huge amount of taxes, if some countries in south EU are living still in "stone ages" with stupid systems there with corruption and bad economy???? I would say things much more worser way, but it is better that i dont write here what all i mean.... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: Anyway EU will fall down in next 10 years, as too many peopple in north/west Europe are too tired to supply those "stupid economy south contries" :) For Frankie: I know very well, that north Italy with good industry will survie, but big problems in south Italy will be too much also for north Italians and Italy will be devided after EU fall down.... World; and especially EU is dividing more and more to RICH and "too" POOR countries and at end there will be someking "war".... Hopefully i have died before that war, because that war can be something MUCH worser than 2.WW :( Sorry, guys that i am very pessimist what will happen in next 20-30 years, but i quess, that big war is closer that peopple can imagine.....There start to be big "fight" already in Europe, as NATO want to put missiles "against something" ( maybe against Russia?) and Russia start put missiles to Kalingrad against "west"..... In such war ALL AND EVERYWHERE are loosers..... I am not joking now........ :,(

Antti,
I think you have an apocalyptic vision of the future.
Perhaps, EU could fall down in the future, but I really think does'nt.
The EU and the Euro is valuable for all the EU's countries but, above all, for the Germany which is the only country is now growing up.
Most of EU countries (like Italy) are trying to improve its national budgets, but they are in economic slump.
No country could afford to give up the Euro and EU has not allowed the Greece did it, in spite of its default.
Besides, I don't think Italy will be divided in future.
We have in Italy a northern party which wanted it, saying the North have industries and the South corruption and bad economy.
That party now is crushed by judicial inquiries because of the corruption of its leaders...

Really, it's true all the peoples are dividing in poor and rich but, it seems to me all the countries are doing many efforts to improve the things.

I'm confident in a better future... with our Pasos

Ciao

Frankie: "It" was/is already in Greece and now/next it seems to happen in Spain and many experts are saying that Italy will be next after Spain.... We shall wait, but at the end You will see, that i was in right.... WHY shall i pay huge amount of taxes (from my salary) to my government that it can help such countries as Greece or Spain (or later Italy) ??? Can i get anything back from such "help" ??? (NO !!!) I quess that all those moneys we have send to Greece are lost totally and we cant get anything back from there as they still live in "stone ages with plenty of corruption" and there lives "too lazy peopple" as something else than hard WORKING is more important to them. Thay want to have "fun" all time without so much working. I have traveled in Greece, Spain and Italy and i have seen they attitude to "work"   Ok, in North Italy they have better attitude to work, so, Frankie, You can sleep calmly your nights

EU helps Greece and other countries not for generosity (or not only for that).
Giving the Euro up would be a worldwide economic disaster, so also USA and Obama are ready to help EU.
So, no matter of generosity both of Finland and Germany.
If Angela Merkel is against Euro bonds is only for election reasons, because its electorate (and may be all the Germany) would not appreciate it.

About Italy.
Your concern about the division between north and south is now over. That northern party which wanted it, now is fully spoiled.
Now, in Italy there are new political movements which are growing up quickly.
They are radical and extreme to give up that old Italian political way.

About me.
Unfortunately, no calm nights :,( :,( :,( :,( :,( :,( .
Now, I'm working on two offices which are far 160 kms each other.
I have bought a new car on end of March, and now on the odometer they are 7.800 kms :,( :,( :,( :,( :,(
No time for lazy life, Pasos, holidays or so...
Ciao

California fuel price update:

Still sticking to the regular unleaded (for my V-6 automobile)

In Auburn I filled my 14 gallon tank up for $40  @ $3.65 per gallon.
but I have yet to see this price anywhere in the bay area or the Sacramento area.
Mainly it hanging around $3.85 per gallon for regular (lowest octane).

£1.28 to £1.32 per UK litre.

You're not paying for Greeks. You're paying for German banks.

Hopefully the EU will fall since besides borderless travel it has brought inflation and misery
and socialism for the wealthy.

edit -- Just re:read your entire post

Not that it matters much, but you're completely wrong.
Precisely what always happens in these situations, hatred and racism come to the fore, even the mild civilized type.

When your companies are syphoning the wealth out the 'south' it's fine,
now that your governments are forcing you to do a backdoor bailout of your own banks
it's a problem.

Don't blame the south, blame your corrupt and lazy system, because that is what you're paying into.

Well I think I might revisit this as we have seen some nice price drops here in the UK thanks to the OPEC over production targets, the current local price for me is

Unleaded Petrol = £1.10 per UK Litre

A lot cheaper for us compared to 6 weeks ago when it was hovering around the £1.32 per UK Litre mark. :banghead:

Same prices here and I'm rather annoyed that I can't make the best of it just now. I do about 3,000 miles a year in the car and about 8-9,000 on the bikes. I'll bet that come spring when I get the bikes back on the road that the price will be back up to where it was.

Well, Unleaded (91 Octane) fuel prices in Perth at the moment are average of $1.15/litre. Works out about £0.58/litre. No idea what the US conversion rate is?

Cheaper than beer!

Cheers.

Nick.

Oh, and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone..........
