Re: upgrading desmodue to dual spark!
does that mean it isn`t mentioned or he didn`t do it ? If ignition timing isn`t changed the motor will not live very long as sooner or later there will be a piston damage. You need to modify the flywheel or get a programmable ignition module (standard ignition timing is 34° full advance and usually needs to be changed to 26, 28° or 30° with dual spark plugs depending on compression ratio and if it`s a bike originally equipped with a Kokusan or Digipley ignition)

Re: upgrading desmodue to dual spark!
He says there was any modification except for the exhaust pipes and for the setting of the carburettors by a Dynojet st2 kit.
No mention about the ignition.

I'm thinking this might be a good beginning for an overboosted engine

Re: upgrading desmodue to dual spark!
Actually I've seen an 851 engine with turbo supercharger and marelli ecu from a fiat uno turbo 1300cc, but I was meaning a volumetric supercharger such as EATON ones
(here's the site of an italian tunerhttp://www.plracing.com/volumetrici.htm)
Wonder how mutch torque can a 904 engine bear!

Why do butcher those ancient bikes????
I'm already trying to convince my 906 friend to not fit an ST4 engine on his bike....

The US site talks about retarding the timing but the spec is unreadable

Maybe electrex has a special mapping for desmodue?
Otherwise "pederzini" black boxes step 6 or 7 can do

Re: upgrading desmodue to dual spark!
I've got a few reasons you can relay to him that should discourage him:persempre907 wrote:I'm already trying to convince my 906 friend to not fit an ST4 engine on his bike....
1) The Paso swingarm will not just bolt-on to the ST4 engine. Either he will need to modify the engine case or modify the swingarm (or an ST2/4 swingarm)
2) The mounting bosses of the ST4 engine will need to be trimmed down to fit the Paso's frame
3) The front cross member of the Paso frame will need to be cut to clear the horizontal head of the ST4 engine
4) The right, front frame tube will need to be cut, reshaped, and rewelded to clear the horizontal intake camshaft
5) The bottom rear of the engine cases will need to be trimmed to clear the Paso's frame
6) There is a possibility that the front wheel will hit the horizontal head under extreme braking
7) The bottom of the gas tank will need to be cut and reshaped to clear the vertical head of the engine.
I'm sure there will be more issues, but those are the ones I've run across, so far, on my 916 Paso project (stuffing an ST4 engine into a Paso 750 chassis).
I don't have the updated pictures on the website, yet - http:///www.desmodemon.com/mega_paso/

Re: upgrading desmodue to dual spark!
The friend of mine can't do the work by himself, so I guess such work can be very, very expensive...
Besides, many problems could be got over fitting an 851/888 engine, that would fit very well into the Paso frame.
But, all in all, I don't know how much is worth such project...
The Paso's frame doesn't tolerate the 4 valves power and has to be strengthened.
Ciao

Re: upgrading desmodue to dual spark!
After responding earlier, I decided to work on my Mega Paso project. For anyone who hasn't seen the thread on this crazy idea, here is the thread in the 750 forum of this site...persempre907 wrote:But, all in all, I don't know how much is worth such project...
http://forums.ducatipaso.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2503
I spent a couple of hours and have the bike looking like this...
By the way, I'm taking a bunch of left-over parts from various parted out bikes that I've picked up over the years, and currently only have about $900 in the whole project. If I sell more of my spare parts to fund the rest of the project, I'm hoping to keep the total project cost under $1000 USD.
