Alternator output

Post by higgy »

Just a few preliminary findings

There seem to be a basic 2 avenues to increased/restored output, well 3 actually but the third requires modifying the regulator which seems to me would be impractical for most..dissecting one today

First; part one......... Rumor has it the ST rotor has stronger magnets..nix it wont work
part two...it is possible to reflash the standard 14 magnet rotor to a stronger magnet I am looking into a way to do this at home in your garage with out risking your life or wallet...more later as I figure it out

Second..after taking my spare stator apart it does not look to be a difficult matter to rewire the stator. the factory windings look hand made, pretty crappy actually, should not be a big job to make an improvement here. Got to figure out the best wire size for across the board as in rpm range improvement

Just an update
Forget the ST totally different

Decided on a two wire rewind looking into wire sizes for the best output
