watch and weep - Ian Gowanloch`s part depot

Seeing some parts laying around outside, rusting and with cows around them gives me goosebumps.

Jon, he most likely has the parts for your Brio.

Not so strange when you have met the guy. I offered to clean up his pile of "used" frames for him....take them away and....well, his response was that having all those frames lying about in the weather doesnt do them any harm what so ever due to their construction and metal composition.

In one shed, the has a stack of shelves about 15' high just with bevel motors on them...

This IS the real Bevel Heaven, (sorry Steve).

From my observations, 99% of the parts Ian has are new....dusty yes but definately new.

He is the go to man for EVERYTHING Ducati in Oz and in a lot of cases, wholesales to overseas suppliers/buyers.

If you want it, he either has it or can get it.....and NOS, still in its original wrapping.

The photos do not do him or his methods justice.

Better yet.....just forget the whole post exchange...it is what it is and I can keep it all to myself......LOL.

I looked at some of the pictures, but just couldn't bring myself to look at all of them. It did make me wonder just how much of those parts have become absolute junk over the years or been severly deteriorated enough to make no one want them. I'm sure a lot of parts that were obtained brand new have deteriorated with moisture and corrosion, even if it is just due to condensation.

My understanding is that over the years Ian has aquired "entire lots" where a supplier, distributor or bike shop is closing and rather than let the parts go for scrap value he has "saved" them. Purchased them and stored them for future use.
It sure looks like the quality of storage could be improved in areas, but the parts are there, available and if it is the only one left you will take it, even if it means repainting/cleaning etc.
He did supply my Conti exhaust and can see there are still plenty left.

I have also bought the Conti. Shipment was very expensive, no matter was a real bargain!

While trying to get my Paso back on the road a few years ago, I tried to contact them four or five times. Most emails went unanswered, and the one that I did get a reply from took nearly three weeks with a "we don't have that part" reply. Seems like if he does have anything I have wanted, he wasn't interested in locating it or selling it.
