Starter Brushes
I need to tear down my starter after it failed in August. I'm getting tired of bump starting the bike! Can anyone tell me what size, kind, part number, etc... the brushes are so that I can buy them in advance??

I make same to my 907 just last summer and i did it this way: I opened hole left case away(not so hard job connected same time with oil change), starter away, take old brushes away. Then to local car electrical repair shop, where we find closest brushes and then i grind small amount of stuff away and "VIOLA", they fit perfect to brush holders.... Coast was about 6 Euros...   Surely those brushes can be done without taking hole starter away, but it need very small fingers and knowing, what to do... I have changed one time brushes to my 750 with such system, but better do it with opening left case and then U can also clean totally hole starter, not only change brushes...

About changhing brushes, I've posted "how to" somewere, maybe you can find it in F.A.Q. stiky in 750 forum, or by a search in the entire posting...
Before changing brushes, I think you'd better test input voltage in the starter, because there mignt be a fault somewhere (i.e. starter relay or main switch). So your paso might require a wiring upgrade, more than a brushes change
Have a nice work!

Jon,
I just repaired my starter on my 907 which I beleive is the same and posted a conclusion of the 907 forum attached:
Well finally had the chance to look at the starter motor. Pulled the end off without having to take complete starter motor out. Noticed a lot of grease around brushes, question about this later. Brushes worn out. Ducati dont sell only brushes, complete starter $780. Looked at internet and found that equivalent brushes apparently from ZX 7 kawasaki (part no. 14079-2005 and 2116-1058) however no stock in Melbourne so couldn't compare. Found auto electrician (city auto electrics coburg) with pair of brushes for $30. Had to solder brushes onto original tags. Put starter back together and first press of the starter, that nice ducati sound. So thanks to all for the great information.
